Forgive me if this has already been discussed here. After the success of the Deadpool films, there has been talk of a possible Lobo movie. I've been doing research on the character and I think that if WB were to make a Lobo movie, it should definitely be rated R due to how over the top the character is in terms of the violence. Of course, some want the film to be rated PG-13. Yes, PG-13 rated films are more financially successful than R rated films, BUT some of the recent R rated films have shown that they can be financially successful as well. Plus, ironically, with an R rating, there's more freedom to do pretty much what you want in terms of content and the nature of the story. In PG-13 rated films, you have to be somewhat careful with the content and still have to abide by the rules of the rating. I don't think a character like Lobo would completely work with a PG-13 rating. I could be wrong but it's highly unlikely.
Any thoughts?

I don't know... All I can picture from a Lobo movie is Guardians of the Galaxy meets Mad Max: FR meets Deadpool.
Any movie can work in any rating. It's the people that want to feel "adult" because it's an R rated movie. I've never gone on Netflix and looked for movies because of the ratings. I'll look at the tile and just decide to watch. Hell, even after watching I've never said "That would have been better if it was [whatever] rating."

Yeah, the film would most likely be Guardians of the Galaxy meets Mad Max: Fury Road meets Deadpool. But if it's managed well, I think that would be a cool, worthwhile film. However, I strongly disagree that any movie can work with any rating. There are certain things in some films that wouldn't work with certain ratings. That's why we have five different types of movie ratings and why the first three ratings appeal to more massive audiences pertaining to children and teens. It depends on the type of content, the atmosphere, and the nature of the story that determines the rating for the movie. When it comes to G, PG, and to a certain extent, PG-13, they're meant to appeal to a variety of audiences in terms of keeping the content, atmosphere, and the nature of the story toned down and appropriate. With the R and NC-17 ratings, there's more freedom to expand upon the content and delve into a territory aimed for older teens and adult audiences.

You can absolutely make the same movie without those things. Again, it's just something to make a person feel more adult. Any other person wouldn't notice it to care.

If the gore, profanity, and sex are integral to the story, the movie will be significantly different than if the gore, profanity, and sex were toned down or removed altogether.

I was interested in a Lobo movie back when Momoa was fan casted for the role. Now though... I'd prefer MoS2 to be made, with Lobo as the villain.

If they decide to make that film, yea go for it. It’ll be a while before we see a rated R DCEU film honestly.

Hopefully, WB doesn't be like Sony and pussy out of the film they claim that's R rated and lower it down to PG-13. The Birds of Prey film definitely sounds like something that's not suitable for children. And if they tried what Sony had done, they would be exposing themselves as cowards. I think that Suicide Squad was supposed to be aimed at adults yet was toned down to obtain a PG-13 rating and that sparked some debate on whether the MPAA needed yet another rating. I'm STILL PISSED that Sony basically LIED for about a year in saying that Venom was going to be R rated, yet chickened out at the last minute and made the film PG-13. THEY SHOULDN'T HAVE STATED THAT THE FILM WAS GOING TO BE AIMED AT ADULTS IN THE FIRST PLACE IF THEY WEREN'T GOING TO ULTIMATELY FOLLOW THROUGH THAT PLAN!!! Sorry. It's because of things like this is why I take everything movie studios say with a grain of salt because they could be lying through their teeth! Also, even though this film is not part of DC nor Marvel, at least the Hellboy reboot is taking a risk and followed through with the R rating.

Is there a movie where it's integral for the movie? Um, Apocalypse Now, Raging Bull, Terminator, The Silence of the Lambs, Pulp Fiction, Face/Off, The Wolf of Wall Street...I could go on.

You can have pg13 versions of those movies and it wouldn't matter. Probably the only scene I can think of is the OD and gimp scenes in Pulp Fiction. Sex scenes you can imply. If you can edit a movie for tv then the R is not integral.

If the filmmakers intended to have the violence, gore, sex, and profanity to be integral in their films, they shouldn't be censored.
