Saw this last night. It's yet another highly uneven and wildly varied international horror anthology with segments tied by their common theme of being based on local folklore. None of these are particularly great, but clearly some are far better than others, which of course is the case for almost every anthology.
Unfortunately, the entry from the good old USA is fucking abysmal. It's bad in every conceivable way, to the point that it almost seems like it might be the only one that's supposed to be a joke, but even thinking of it in that way, it's not funny or entertaining in any way that it might have intended. It's just fucking useless.
Most of the others are sort of art house looking horror pieces. Most of them look decent enough, the production values, for the most part, are pretty high. But some are not well directed, and there's not much in the way of quality acting. The first segment is well made, but the scares a lame and it just doesn't have an ending. The best one is probably the last, which is almost like an old silent film, despite the fact that it's in color and uses some nice sound effects. But it uses title cards in place of spoken dialogue, almost all static camera work, and is shot or at least played slightly off speed. I also kind of liked the German entry, the Indian entry, and the one from Turkey by the director of Baskin.
None of them completely impress, and the weak ones drag the experience down, but if you like this sort of thing, I'd say it's far better than the producers' other work; The ABCs of Death films.
