***SPOILERS***
I was completely blown away by this revenge thriller about Clyde Shelton, a seemingly normal man seeking vengeance against the two punks who murdered his wife and young daughter during a home invasion. Turns out he's also taking his revenge on the entire legal system due to the fact the prosecutor cut a deal to have a reduced sentence for Clarence Darby (a truly slimy sociopath, extremely well-played by Christian Stolte), the one who actually did the killings.
At first I completely sympathized with Shelton and I also admit I found it satisfying when he captured Darby and slowly killed him, and I'm sure many other viewers felt the same way. But as the film goes along we learn that Shelton has actually been reduced to the level of Hannibal Lector/John Doe of Se7en territory, making him the true villain, and a very dangerous one. Naturally, he no longer had my sympathy.
I found Law Abiding Citizen to be a very clever and captivating thriller that really packs a jolt, and the ultimate cat-and-mouse game. They way Shelton manipulates everybody and the judicial system is fascinating. Gerard Butler gives an outstanding performance as Shelton, and Jamie Foxx is also great as the prosecutor determined to stop Shelton.
There are certain aspects of the script that may not come across as believable, maybe even far-fetched, but by then I was too absorbed with the story to really care about that.

It has a good set up and some great scenes, namely Leonidas roasting the judge for granting him bail and the subsequent phone bit. But Leonidas' schemes get way too supervillainy and the film has one of the most inanely contradictory endings I've seen.

Absolutely love this movie. Top notch revenge flick. After the Death Wish Bruce Willis version I said forget that and try Law Abiding Citizen.

This movie was a lot of fun. I agree the ending seems so random and I don't know in a good or dumb way. But, leading up to that, the pace of this movie was highly entertaining. I often jump to seeing movies when it comes to certain actors, and Gerard Butler didn't disappoint at all with this one.
I also love the Darby kill, and judge kill, and man, just look at that fellow inmate. I had no sympathy for that guy until Butler murders him horribly, I was like, "Damn".
I won't say I love this movie, but I don't hate it by any means. It's kind of a guilty pleasure of a film. I gave it a rating of 7/10. I would've loved to have rated it higher, but that ending I know. I think the person who commented on it being far-fetched made a good point.
