I can never understand what these critics say, lol. But by the looks of it, he’s missed the point.

Agreed. A dismal psychological thriller that bogs down in the tedious Ann-Margret/Hopkins romance.

Agreed. A dismal psychological thriller that bogs down in the tedious Ann-Margret/Hopkins romance. Have you read the book? I thought the movie did a pretty admirable job of boiling down the story and making it much more digestible to movie audiences of the era.

nope. I watched it again tonight. Worse than I remember. One good scene - the 5 minute test.

This is one of those films I feel like I have seen but I don't remember seeing. Maybe on tv when I was a kid.
I like Hopkins. So I might see if it's available on streaming.
But looking up the novel, that looks really interesting. I might have to pick that up.

Peggy Ann Snow, Peggy Ann Snow I will follow you wherever you go.
Hopkins and Meredith were great
But the 'balls' of the movie is 'Fats'. Sensational. I've read that Hopkins did 'Fats' voice.
Special movie

Special movie He did, and even taught himself how to do the voice without moving his lips. They don't make actors like that anymore!

The book is really great and an easy read. Strongly recommended.

Great flick. Haven't seen it in awhile. I have the book. I was thinking of a book to read after I've read Pet Sematary and I think I'll read Magic again. Been awhile since I read that also.

I'm planning on (finally) cracking It. I figure I ought to have it done by the time Chapter 2 hits theaters... 🤔

I remember it getting a lot of media coverage-in horror magazines too. Another similar kind of genre-bender was FADE TO BLACK--a "high brow" slasher film that seems to have completely slipped from memory.

i'm a sucker for these movies.
and always enjoyed the Twilight Zones that revolved around a dummy/doll/ventriloquist
haven't seen 'Magic' in years - but remember being creeped out - and for me - that's what it's all about as a horror fan - that sense of 'unease' while watching a flick
