Kind of a snoozer. This universe is fun but I’ll hold all the films against Annabelle Creation at this point and if they don’t come close then I see it as a waste of time. Nun showed too much. Too much of Valek, too much of what happens when Valek catches you...which didn’t seem to amount to much more than strangulation. I just think they’d have done better with a less is more approach.
I did like Taissa Farmiga casting tho. But overall this wasn’t the best entry to this series.

Agreed. It’s a bit of a mess all around. I can only have faith in the main Conjuring movies, instead of these spinoffs which don’t really do any favours (except for Creation of course).

Hadn't seen it. It seemed like a retread of Annabelle except with the Nun.

I did like Taissa Farmiga casting tho. But overall this wasn’t the best entry to this series. Her and her sister look so much alike that I was expecting a twist that their characters are related. Is Annabelle Creation really that good? Bare in mind I hated the first Conjuring and this pos. But I do like Lights Out (and Shazam, fwiw).

Well if you didn’t like those movies then you might not enjoy that. Though I suppose give it a watch for curiosity.

Still haven't seen it. Will when it's on Netflix or Amazon Prime.

If you don’t like any of the other Conjuring universe films I wouldn’t recommend Creation...but I do believe it’s the best of the bunch.

My favourite scene is the marching in of the nuns like the army of god. PS: I haven't seen any of the other movies and the reference to them at the beginning was the most annoying part of the movie. It worked for me as a stand-alone movie with an option for a sequel.

"The Nun" had such promise for the first, like, 15 minutes. Then doesn't deliver. After that it had a combination of flaws from being too dark, too many jump scares, whatever flashbacks, whatever kills etc. Me personally, I really cared for no one in this movie other than Taissa Farmiga's role. I agree, I love her casting. But this movie played out like a bad episode of "American Horror Story", with Taissa. A show I also love, but it's gone pretty downhill after 8 seasons. I gave "The Nun" 4/10.
"Annabelle: Creation", promises you a good horror movie in the first 5 minutes, and delivers everything. Characters I like seeing scared or surviving, lit day scenes and nice nightly shots, with some truly terrifying ghost scenes. Even the flashback terrified me. This movie is an epic stand alone movie. I gave "Annabelle: Creation" 9/10.
"Annabelle", I watched, and really I didn't care for it. The only thing I liked about it was it's look, like the lead actress was beautiful. Other than that, it wasn't good. Thank God they made "Annabelle: Creation" to revive interest in the story. I gave "Annabelle" 5/10.
"The Conjuring" & "The Conjuring 2" I have a lot of respect for. They're well made, perfectly casted, full of thrills and frights etc. I also don't care too much for the spinoffs (minus Creation). I gave "The Conjuring" 7/10 & "The Conjuring 2" 7/10.
That's another thing about "The Nun"... wasn't it supposed to tie into the nun in "Annabelle: Creation"? Or did it, and I was just too bored to care? Ha, hope my opinions help any other readers.

It's just as lame as everyone had said. The cast is good and Corin Hardy proved he could make a somewhat stylish and enjoyable horror movie with The Hallow, but this is just so amateurish. Even the lighting on the landscape at night looks like the DP was designing a higher budget episode of Are You Afraid of the Dark?...
And the Farmiga connection is weird. If they had cast her as a younger version of her older sister's character, that might have really paid off. But instead it's strange that they look so much alike but that there's no allusion to that obvious fact.
The actors generally do what they can with a lame script, but how do save material that treats a character called 'Frenchie' correcting people by saying he's 'actually French Canadian' as the sole comic relief and ultimately as the big dramatic and triumphant hero moment?
None of the mythology really makes any sense, it's filled with lame leaps in logic to get to lazy jump scares, and it has a kinda dumb looking and silly central villain. Some of this could be forgiven if any of the stylistic choices or horror moments worked, but the lamer and weaker that stuff gets the more you notice how ineffective and nonsensical all the other elements are.
I guess if you're really into the other bullshit this is connected to it might do something for you, but I don't really get how thus thing cleaned up at the box office like it did despite, seemingly, everyone hating it.
And no, Annabelle Creation is not THAT good. It stands out because the bar is set so low by these movies, but it's not a huge step up. These movies do have some level of period charm, and this one makes decent use of that, but I found the characters pretty flat and the horror elements fairly run of the mill. Especially considering the inventiveness in the otherwise pretty dull and ordinary Lights Out by the same director (Shazam was surprisingly very enjoyable though).
Gary Doberman wrote both of these movies. He seems to be a hired gun who delivers rote and ordinary studio horror movie that wont attempt to change anyone or do anything unexpected at any time. It worries me a bit for It Chapter 2. I didnt think the first part was particularly great, but it clearly connected with people and got some things right with regards to adapting the book. He will still have the novel to rely on, but he hasn't shown any ability to depict well drawn characters without leaning to heavily on cliche, and he's writing this one on his own, without a previous draft to work from. The older and theoretical more mature sections of the book should be the emotional resonance of the whole thing, but if this slides into bland and uninvolving 'Wan-o-verse' territory (even the best of which isn't really any good), then that will be a major disappointment.

Ok Since it was brought to my atttention that it is available on HBO I gave it a whirl.
While not horrible, I did feel the entire movie was one missed opportunity after another. I never got that much feeling of dread even from the villian.
I don't understand how it made so much money.
