Wouldn't it have made more sense if Venom went looking for Harry and not Flint?
I mean, if Venom has Peter's memories, then he knows that Harry wants to go after Peter as well, in fact a lot more than Flint does.
He wouldn't even need to be asked twice. Not to mention that it doesn't make much sense for Venom to have been looking for Flint since Peter thought he was dead.

Because it was an awful, incoherent mess of a film. Apparently going "bad" means doing some cheesy jazz dance number.

In the original script, Sandman escaped prison with Vulture and it was they Peter and Harry fought against. When Sony made Raimi switch Vulture with Venom, he kept the same battle royale even though Venom and Sandman make no sense as a duo.

I was extremely disappointed with this movie, and I saw it opening weekend!
I think moviemouth said it best, this movie took a crap on the billion dollar franchise. But, I don't completely hate the movie (in comparison to "X-Men: The Last Stand"). This movie is just flawed and directed and scripted in ways that kill any real story the movie has to offer. I mean, another example aside from the OP's question, just look at Sandman fighting at the end of this movie. He makes the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man look fit.
It almost feels like Peter's memories about Harry Osbourne, seize to exist. Yet, Peter's powers and persona of being Spider-Man does exist by the time Venom is looking for Sandman. The alien symbiote black suit was badly executed in this movie. I don't like how Peter is even able to store and trunk an alien symbiote suit in his closet. That wasn't the comic book symbiote, instead, it shape-shifted, no? Like the alien symbiote never left Peter's body, and if Peter wanted to change clothes or change his appearance, he could just think it and change.
As moviebuffbrad also said, I do remember the villain, Vulture, slated to be a main antagonist in this movie. As soon as I heard he was written out and replaced with Venom, people were getting amped up but not me. At the time, I thought it was too soon for Venom, and I felt his story would be rushed, and it was. I didn't expect them to reboot the "Spider-Man" franchise, twice, but that would've been a more appropriate time to throw Venom in the Marvel movies. I do think they stuck with that idea of the original script, and never corrected the plausible choices of what the alien symbiote and Venom character would do with Peter's memories of Harry. Sandman if I remember, wasn't even looking for Peter at all. I mean if you watch 3/4 of this movie, it's a good steady pace. Then you watch the very end, it's thrown together. I still have trouble getting over that it ended over Harry dying, literally. Peter speechless, and Mary Jane loveless. Like, no funeral, no ending news update, no the city is saved, no "I love you", no "I'm sorry", just nothing. What a horrible ending to a franchise. Sandman is the only character who has any kind of ending redemption in this.
The reason I didn't hate this movie, is because it did still feel like a Spider-Man movie. It did have it's returning cast doing a decent job and nice supporting cast. And Sam Raimi is still one of my favorite directors, directing just a not-so-good movie. If it were me, I would've kept the character Vulture, and I would've casted him with actor Ben Kingsley, who was rumored to be the Vulture and was looking to do a superhero film (going on to do "Iron Man 3", another mess ha). I would've kept everything the same with Sandman, except adding a much more realistic fight scene at the ending. And something I was all for at the time, I was hoping they'd cast actor Bruce Campbell as the villain Mysterio. Who had a cameo role in all three movies and who is best friends with director Sam Raimi. That, would've been an epic way to end the franchise, with those three villains. We could've then been teased maybe, at the end, and see a meteor crash into a field carrying the alien symbiote. Instead, we got this, movie, to keep talking about, ha.
