Pointless. Just because they all belong to the same genre, there's so much variety that to call one greater than the other by some standard is just retarded. Even voting for a favourite makes no sense as I like many of them for completely different reasons. Banal. Have heard this rant so many times on so many comparisons.

themanwithnoshame Some westerns that should get more praise. Will Penny The Wind (1928) The Ox-Bow Incident (1943) ( Have you seen this one man with no name?) Bad Day at Black Rock (1955) The answer to your question afaiac is The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (1966) Will Penny is an excellent film. I am not a great fan of Charlton Heston but in this he is outstanding.
I would find it almost impossible to pick one movie over another, there have been so many fine Westerns.

Voting from a list of films doesn't allow for interesting discussion.

Ride the high country (1962).
I have about 5 favorites, but I figure that one has the best chance of my five.

Yes, there is a strange melancholy surrounding that film that makes you feel you part of that movie. It's a very different western and of a kind that you don't see often.

I don't know if it's "the" greatest western of all times, but one great western was "The Long Riders," starring the Carradine, Quaid, Keach (and possibly some other) brothers.

Banal. Have heard this rant so many times on so many comparisons. It's true though. Voting from a list of films doesn't allow for interesting discussion. You only need to select Other at the bottom. It automatically allows for open discussion and debate on the pros and cons of all other Westerns.

Both the polls have different winners. Haha. What's you no.1? I guess Once Upon A Time in the West?

Theme music aside, I don't consider Once Upon a Time in the West to be the best Leone film. But that Jill McBain one sexy independent vixen. She can ride my wagon any day of the week. Except for Bingo Thursday's. A man has to have some time to himself, right Kiff?
