The haphazard media organisation behind the independent label Terror Optics is spearheaded by company founder Jason Matherne. I'm only aware of their horror films that Matherne's directed, so I assume him to be the primary voice behind the curtain. Matherne is microbudget horror cinema's incontrovertible shock jock and he showcases Louisiana in all her glory. His scattershot productions go straight for the jugular and have no subtlety. He employs strays, drifters and local amateur performers to stud his movies and stitches together blaring soundtracks to showcase the work of contemporary metal and punk bands. Matherne is intent upon doing for Louisiana what his hero John Waters did for Maryland, but he shoddily uses cut-price digital processes. He's also a contributing factor to the documentary series 'Go Coast : Louisiana' which shines a spotlight on some of the state's historic landmarks and social activities.

Do you enjoy any of their movies?
Thanks.

Terror Optics is behind the 'Goreface' franchise kickstarted by 'Goreface Killer' (2002), a slasher movie that was originally called the 'C*ckface Killer' but changed to garner more mainstream appeal. The Tromatic follow-up 'Goregasm' (2007) earned praise from genre stalwart Lloyd Kaufman, no less. These films epitomise the immaturity of Terror Optics' output which goes all-out for balls-to-the-wall shock value. I find their films are way too messy and unfocused for the most part, but I do quite like one of them, the third installment in the 'Goreface' series, 'Grimewave' (2013). I think 'Grimewave' is a reasonable attempt at storytelling, a better-made film than its predecessors and it has decent production values.
