New York became a haven for indie filmmakers long before the term took on common usage. The streets today don't look as dirty as they once did, but filmmakers have a knack for extracting grime and grit from the state's weathered surroundings. Jim Haggerty is a musician and film obsessive who's been making short subject films since childhood. He worked as a music journalist for a number of years, contributing to the Long Island publication 'The Island-Ear' and helping rock 'n' roll acts gain valuable exposure. He also hosted his own cable access music show in the 1990s. At the close of the decade, Haggerty vowed to return to his first love, independent moviemaking. His debut feature 'The Slasher' (2000) sent ripples across the developing microbudget horror circuit and the art comedy 'I Dream Of Dracula' (2003) earned critical plaudits. Though his first decade in film production was hard-going, Haggerty really came into his own when he upped his budgets and established his own production label in 2009, Yellow Ape Productions. Since then, he's secured distribution for a smattering of short films and more than half a dozen features.
What are some of your favourite Jim Haggerty movies?
Thanks.

I've not yet seen a Jim Haggerty movie from Yellow Ape Productions that I didn't enjoy. The question is will 'Make Them Die Quickly' (2016) ever see the light of day? His scattershot comedy 'Is This A Joke?' (2011) would comfortably rank among my top 10 American comedy features released this decade.
