Great film. The only time I've ever liked Cruise in anything. Hoffman and Cruise were fantastic together.

Honestly, 'Rain Man' is like 'Forrest Gump', I only re-watch 'Forrest Gump' because of Gary Sinise and 'Rain Man' because of Valeria Golino. Both films don't leave much to appreciate after the impact of the first viewing. I agree. It was a film whose good intentions I respected more than the film itself. Maybe around that time I'd seen too many films that were sort of Oscar bait and my sense of Rain Man aiming for awards and prizes detracted from my enjoyment,--that may not be quite the right word--of the movie.

Big Hoffman fan here, and I've always liked Tom Cruise. He's a much better actor than his detractors would have you believe. He and Hoffman worked extremely well in this movie. And if you think what Hoffman did to sustain such a limited character was easy, you probably aren't in the business.
