Instead of reviving Tales from the Crypt without John Kassir, they should make a brand new show with the same format but call it Vault of Horror (the same title as the 50's EC comic Tales From the Crypt's sister series). And have David Hemblin voice the Vault Keeper, hosting the show and introducing each story while making jokes along the way. If they get John Kassir back as the Crypt Keeper, call it Tales From the Crypt and make it a complete return to form but if not, call it Vault of Horror with the Vault Keeper. That would be so awesome

Yeah I know. My thread was in response to that. I'm glad it got cancelled because it looked terrible, an insult to the fans even. Way too serious, generic, and lacking the charm of the original show. M. Night Shyamalan is a talented guy and, although he likes twists which would be fitting for a show like this, he's the wrong choice. He wouldn't have made it fun, campy, and over-the-top like the 90's version, which had the right blend of horror and humor.
One of the latest updates before the cancellation was that John Kassir was not returning as the Crypt Keeper, hence why they should call it Vault of Horror and have the Vault Keeper instead. If they called it Tales From the Crypt, it would just be a lesser imitation of a uniquely great show, but calling it something else and starting fresh would be a much better idea, gaining new fans while not alienating the old. A proper continuation of the original series that paid homage to the sister publication of the original EC comics of the 50's. Plus we're way overdo for a live action Vault Keeper, who wasn't even present in the 1973 Vault of Horror anthology film for some weird reason.

In what way did it look to serious and generic, exactly? As far as a I saw, they only ever cut together a sort of 'sizzle reel' from other movies and shows. I don't know if anything was ever actually shot or written, but that was the only thing I ever saw, and I don't know if that was enough to be able to make any sort of assessment. ... But I agree about making it more of spinoff type approach. That would seem more naturally like the right approach.

But I agree about making it more of spinoff type approach. That would seem more naturally like the right approach. I’m referring to that one trailer that looked like a typical Syfy channel original movie, but with the feel of something like Saw or Hostel. I need to watch it again but I remember being disappointed that it looked nothing like the original TV show. I thought that the trailer you’re talking about was fan made but maybe not. I’ll rewatch it. It wasn’t enough to make an assessment, you’re right, but was literally all we had to go on. Plus the news of John Kassir not returning was a letdown. Anyway, I’m more interested in discussing the possibility of a Vault of Horror TV series. I think that would be the way to go if they really wanted to make a follow up. That Shyamalan revival isn’t happening now anyway, regardless of how it would have turned out. It doesn’t matter anymore what could have been.

How about someone different like The Vault Keeper? My thoughts exactly. Would be great to see a live action version of that character. And if they can't get the rights to the Crypt Keeper or John Kassir doesn't return, it would be a perfect opportunity to use VK.
