I myself, only got into "Game of Thrones" two years ago, when season 7 ended. I had HBO free three weekends of that whole year, and literally binged it until I was all caught up. I never read any of the books, I'm not a reader these days ha. I always heard the hype, though. "Dragons this", "the action there", "the nudity", "long list of great characters", etc. I admit, the show lived up to the hype, for me. It's had some dull moments, like any show, it's not perfect. But you do see a lot of heart go into making it. Much more than you see on half of the other shows that come out today. On all networks.
I watched Season 8 Episode 1, thus far. I will comment and say that I remember it being very slow. Even a bit boring. I get it, you did see characters who never met before finally come face-to-face, which was nice. The episode was a filler for me, as I'm sure season 8 will have a lot of, to conclude all of the characters storylines. The show should end on a high note no matter what any fan criticizes.
The petition, which I don't know anything about. Is one retarded petition, with what must be some arrogant fans. It made me remember the fans who were setting fire to piles and mounds of "The Lord of the Rings" books, when the first movie came out. Where are those fans today? Dumb. When I love a show, I stick to it till the very end. Ride or die, end badly, whatever. I appreciate hard work, great, fun writing and entertainment.

(Friends--and frenemies--please don't reveal what happens in season 8 in threads that are not about Game of Thrones. I will watch it when it comes out on DVD.)

Listening to fans is what led to the storyline we got.
Fans are horrible at storytelling.
