If you want to get the full experience of a film such as Avengers, or Transformers, or new Star Wars Films. You would want 4K or Blu Ray.
However, I bought Ghostbusters (1984) in 4K and I hate it. It's too clear. You see too many flaws and the ghosts look terrible.
I prefer Ghostbusters on DVD.
In that same note, I think indie films, comedies, films older than 1995, and rom coms etc are fine on DVD.
I think this is why DVDs will never die. They are cheap. You can literally wait a year after a film is released, then buy it on Amazon or WalMart for 5 bucks on DVD.

Blade Runner 2049 was mind blowing in 4K.

I would think you'd see the ghost effects flaws as well on Blu-ray or even DVD. You also have to consider how your TV is set up.

I watch Ghostbusters on a 720p old HD TV in 480i or my SD square TV on VHS. I like the way it looked, it's an experience. I don't need to see every line of Murray's acne scars. Lol

Lawrence of Arabia in 4K
I saw it presented theatrically in 4K a few years ago. I'm not sure why it's not available yet in the format. It's tremendously beautiful.
On the other side, most comedies or melodramas I could give 2 flips about in 4K. No point really.
