Daniel Myrick (Born: September 3, 1963 in Sarasota, Florida, USA)
Daniel Myrick & Eduardo Sanchez
'Be My Prism' - Jacuzzi Boys
20 years ago, Daniel Myrick got together with Cuban director Eduardo Sanchez to shoot the low budget horror 'The Blair Witch Project' (1999) in Maryland. The film became a cultural and box-office phenomenon, pioneering the found footage horror subgenre and introducing audiences to a new style of shakycam storytelling. Myrick passed on the possibility to direct 'Blair Witch' sequels and instead decided to plough his own furrow. His horror films are often described as clever, carefully put together and thought-provoking. Anybody who's listened to the commentary track recorded for 'The Blair Witch Project' can attest to the thorough nature of the location planning and script preparations behind the making of that movie. Myrick's filmed horror movies in Maryland, Louisiana and California, but I'm not aware of him shooting back home in Florida. He's currently working on wrapping up the science-fiction project 'Skyman' (scheduled for a 2019 release).
What are some of your favourite Daniel Myrick movies?
Thanks.

There was a lot of buzz around Eduardo Sanchez's science-fiction horror 'Altered' (2006) and when I saw it the story didn't work for me. Funnily enough, 'Altered' was shot in Florida. A couple of years later, a supernatural mystery emerged with little fanfare surrounding it. The humble horror 'Solstice' was filmed by Daniel Myrick in Louisiana.

Outside of the ‘Blair Witch Project’... it looks like Ive only watched Myrick’s ‘The Objective’. Ambitious, but not entirely fulfilling psychology horror. Set in Afghanistan, a CIA operative (with ulterior motives) leads American special ops into unknown enemy territory where they encounter something much more than just the Taliban. And then there’s Sanchez’s exhilarating zombie outbreak story ‘A Ride in the Park’ in V/H/S 2. Great build-up, and intensity in its execution.

Did you see any sequels or follow-ups? I enjoyed the movie 'Book Of Shadows : Blair Witch 2' (2000).

I've not either of these movies. Thanks for the recommendations. I did see the first 'VHS' anthology.

Its flawed but it worked well for me. I like the characters, its pretty creepy and very entertaining. The third film I liked but didnt love. I liked they showed more of the Rustin Parr house.
