Why should society pay for it? I pay for my own food. Do you think your food should be free? Because to be considered a decent "society" then you should provide healthcare for your citizens. especially those most at risk. Every 1st world country agrees on this level of commitment for those it protects apart from one. If you can spend trillions of dollars to fund the geo political machinations of governments and fund the military industrial complex to "protect" your people than why not spend a whole lot less keeping them sound in body and mind. It's okay to take their tax dollars to build thousands of nukes you can never use but not all right to use it to save their lives or those of their children. What a strange set of priorities America has.

What a strange set of priorities America has. It's an immoral toilet of a country. Just a reflection of where unbridled capitalism and greed lead you. The belief that you can carry on forever expanding the gap between the haves and have nots like an ever expanding universe is untenable, something will snap eventually. If it wasn't for the "God and guns" mentality that makes dirt poor people vote completely against their own interests then it would never have come so far, also the demonisation of "socialism" and alteration of it's meaning has lead to a situation where very few Americans seem to understand what it actually is even though it would take them less than five minutes to find out. The idea that Obama or the Clintons are socialists would be amusing if it wasn't so dreadfully depressing that people can be so utterly and willfully ignorant of basic political ideologies.

I started a thread about the abhorrent abortion laws being passed in places like Alabama and there was no shortage of believers here saying that the no matter what the child was innocent and had a right to be defended. When I asked if that meant that they would support socialised medicine and large welfare payments for them all of a sudden they went quiet. So which is it? Should we have laws ensuring the protection of defenseless children? Or only when it doesn't inconvenience you in any way? Anti abortion people mostly don’t give the slightest bit of a crap about the lives of children. They want women under government control and punished for sex, nothing more. Once that’s no longer in play the kids can die in the streets as far as they’re concerned. I agree. I've posted this opinion somewhere on here before, but I think that every anti-abortion protester should be asked, "If this woman decides not to abort, are you willing to take the child and support it for the first 18 years of it's life? If not, then STFU." They don't care about the subsequent life of the child, perhaps living in poverty because the mother has too many children to support, the suffering of knowing that the mother was willing to abort it for whatever reason, possible abuse from a mother or father not able to cope with another child, the physical and psychological damage done to the child because of being born into a dysfunctional environment. It creates damaged kids, who go on to perpetuate whatever damaged environment they were born into. Additionally, women are forced to give birth to babies that are severely handicapped and will suffer for their entire lives. Families lives will revolve around getting enough money to care for a severely handicapped child. Other siblings may suffer. The bottom line is this: This decision is one to be made by the woman and her doctor. Rarely are abortions just a matter of convenience; no one makes this choice lightly. I was fortunate to never have had to make that decision. Had I, I probably would have chosen to carry to term, then surrendered for adoption. But that doesn't mean that that is the right thing to do in every case. It still needs to be a choice for every woman. Each woman's circumstance is different.

Not you... The US... It's fucked. That's what I mean. Anyone who lived in the states would know Alabama is the butt boil of it. Most foreigners don't really understand the whole "state" thing. You should just make a generalized thread of all the reasons the USA sucks since that's the main country talked about outside of the occasional Israel one.

Yeah, it takes someone OTHER THAN flaming pro-lifers to bring sanity to the conversation. Of course the adoption-is-an-option mantra doesn't address why the theoretical 13-yr old victim or rape/incest should be forced to carry the pregnancy to term. Do you think she should be forced to do that? Yes I do, for a few reasons. A) The child is still a living human being regardless of the circumstances of its conception. Therefore should have same fundamental right to life as anybody else. B) Terminating the baby is even more violent than the rape itself. C) The rape is never the fault of the child. It is the rapist that should be punished not the child. D) Aborting the child ultimately won’t bring healing to the rape victim anyway. But that's my point. You're all keen to stress its "right to life" but the second it's born you couldn't give a shit about it or it's mother. If you really did want to ensure that every "innocent life" was cared for you'd be more in favour of helping once it had been born. Not just interfering beforehand when it doesn't cost you anything... Put your money where your mouth is.

Are you okay with abortions in the case of rape? Cos Alabama isn't.... No, I'm not very okay with that. Are you okay with teenage sluts who spread their legs and then have the baby killed at taxpayers' expense because they're just not ready for the motherhood thing yet? What about the men/boys who impregnate them? They should keep their dick in their pants or a condom. Alabama seems pretty keen on people not having abortions. How about a law that EVERY man who creates an unwanted baby has to have a forced vasectomy AND pay maintenance for the child until it is 18? (DNA does not lie)

There sure are a lot of outraged foreigners here. Yeah! It is kinda weird how a lot of you are 'religious' yet you kill each other with guns, have capital punishment spend more on the military and space than the health of your people yet won't let women in need the choice or not of an abortion or even a vitsit to Planned Parenthood for contraceptive advice!

You've got to be the keeper of your own gate, so to speak. It's the same principle with regard to immigration. Illegal immigrants are going to do what they're going to do, but we don't have to let them in. Sounds like a good law except for one thing. DNA can't by itself make a definite match. It's only 99% accurate. If it doesn't match the guy is exonerated, but if it does match it still doesn't prove that he definitely was the guy who did it, because of that remaining 1%, which in a high-populated area amounts to hundreds of other possible contenders. More evidence combined with the DNA would be required.

Were this law in place there would be procedures to maintain them.

You're such a sick liar, even though most anti abortion Christians keep telling you that they believe in supporting unwanted children.
You and your fellow liars just make this stuff up. Most Christians want Universal and free health care for all, because that's what Jesus wanted. You want to hand pick a very few who fit your pattern and say "Aha", even though a clear majority don't fit your pattern, and you full well know it.

It is the rapist that should be punished not the child. D) Aborting the child ultimately won’t bring healing to the rape victim anyway. So it is your position that the entity in the woman's womb is a person? What fundamental rights should a fetus have? The right not to be incarcerated without due process? The right NOT to be transported across state lines to be killed in another state where abortion is still legal? IOW do you think a state should make it illegal for a pregnant woman to go out of state to have an abortion? Do you think miscarriages ought to be investigated to be sure it wasn't caused by the woman or someone else in the same way a child's death results in an investigation to determine cause of death and to rule out homicide?
I realize pregnancies due to rape are probably very very rare, but just to clarify, you'd want your daughter to carry to term a fetus that was due to rape?
Of course the rapist should be punished, but isn't carrying to term the child of a rapist a kind of punishment too...one a woman ought not to have to experience if they don't want to?
I don't know what will bring healing to a rape victim. Do you have personal experience with that or is that conjecture?
