Best British B currently under 50 votes at IMDb … Wide Boy (1952) Directorial debut of Ken Hughes.
Starring Sydney Tafler with a fabulous lead as the petty crim Benny, Susan Shaw as the femme Molly also with Melissa Stribling … I'll second this one - available on R2 dvd - great to see the excellent Tafler in a rare lead and Susan Shaw was always effective in these blue collar glamour puss roles. Wouldn't quite make my top ten but worth a look. Incidentally my Dvd copy cover states it a May 54 release but my FILM REVIEW, Quinlan and British Film Catalogue all say 1952
My top ten
SUDDEN FEAR SINGIN IN THE RAIN THE SNOWS OF KILIMANJARO (natch - see avatar - criminally neglected now - the public lapped it up back in the day - it trailed only THIS IS CINERAMA and GREATEST SHOW ON EARTH at the box office that year) RUBY GENTRY THE BAD AND THE BEAUTIFUL THE GREATEST SHOW ON EARTH CLASH BY NIGHT THE NARROW MARGIN THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST CARRIE (a bit of a downer but possibly Olivier's finest hour on screen)
