Also isn't it kinda hypocritical of her to go after big movies when she starred in Tron: Legacy and Cowboys & Aliens? Both of which sucked, but that's beside the point. Yes it is, but that doesen’t matter to her.

Just curious, what agenda is this movie pushing? I haven't been paying any attention to it (trailers, reviews, etc.) so I have no idea. A very liberal agenda. But what exactly?

Don’t know. I only saw the previews and that was enough to make me NOT wanna see it.

Pretty sure it was never planned to be a blockbuster I read the Wikipedia plot and it sounds like an art house film. As previously mentioned in this thread, the release date is all wrong for this type of film.

The film synopsis doesn't sounds like anything special, but it doesn't sound horrible either, although I assume there is feminist propaganda shoe-horned in there. I can ignore that if it's done well. She should have released it in February when kids were thinking about graduation and prom.

That you can work hard and still find time to enjoy life, and don't assume you're better than everyone else because you only do the former. Seriously, that's the only actual message of the movie. Everything else I've seen is projection because it's about two girls, features some openly gay kids because it's set in 2019, and Olivia Wilde is apparently liberal. I've said it before and I'll say it again, the only thing worse than an SJW is the reactionary opposite.

I wouldn't have assumed that before just because there's openly gay characters in it. Like you said, it's 2019, and people are coming out even before highschool now.

I'll admit the trailers didn't impress me at all. But fret not, Miss Wilde. There's always another day to enact ... the agenda !!!!!!!! Why do you keep acting like a feminist political activist having and pushing an agenda in the film she made (AFTER she's given interviews talking about how she put her politics into the film) is ridiculous?
The way you weirdos try to deny reality is just baffling. It's not like Wilde is quiet about her politics or agenda lol.

I don't get why so many comments on this thread are so antagonizing. Olivia didn't say to watch it just because it's a movie made by and about women. She said that those kinds of movies don't get green-lit by studios very often (the fact that BOOKSMART is a low-budget indie is an indirect proof) because they fear there won't be profits. She's not even trying to convince people to see it; she said that if you're already interesting in seeing it then you should do it ASAP, since the movie could be removed from theatres if the ticket sales are too low. Especially if you choose to watch a big budget movie that you've already seen instead. Also isn't it kinda hypocritical of her to go after big movies when she starred in Tron: Legacy and Cowboys & Aliens? Both of which sucked, but that's beside the point. She didn't say there's something wrong with blockbusters; just that in this particular case her movie is competing against a bunch of them and that there should be enough variety of genres for people to choose.

But then shouldn't she set an example by not appearing in blockbusters? It's not a terrible thing she's said, but it just comes off as a tad hypocritical to me.

But then shouldn't she set an example by not appearing in blockbusters? Example of what? She didn't say there's something wrong with working in a blockbuster, so she's not being a hypocrite.

Well who knows what kind of small independent movies Tron: Legacy badly overshadowed, yet she was still in it and spent time promoting it. So it just seems that she's throwing stones while living in a glass house. I think we'll just have to agree to disagree on this.

Did she say "Go see my movie" or "Don't go see other movies"? It may seem like the same thing, but it's not. Also, while social media existed in 2010, it didn't have the same influence as today. Also-also, there's a difference between an up-and-coming actress promoting a movie where she's not the lead and an A-lister promoting a movie she directed.

Pretty sure it was never planned to be a blockbuster I read the Wikipedia plot and it sounds like an art house film. The trailer makes it look like a lowbrow teen-comedy, hence my complete lack of interest, regardless of the gender/orientation of the director or main characters.
