When I was young, whenever we went to the country, especially when there was a pool, a river, lake and boat, our parents could not keep us in the house. We had to be called in for lunch and dinner.
The kids in this movie don't want to do anything except stay inside and play on their smartphones, smart pads, or computers.
Even when the father tried to expose them to other things to do, the kids just sighed like, "Come on Dad, nobody wants to do those things." Nobody used the pool, the lake or the motorboat for fun.

It seemed like "kids these days" stuff, but they went kinda over the top with it. Especially the scene where the dad pulls up with a speedboat and everyone just rolls their eyes? Man, I'd be jumping up and down.

Man, I'd be jumping up and down. We have a place in the country with a pool, a river and boats (motor boats and paddle boats). Our parents would ask us, "Maybe you ought to get out of the water. Your lips are turning blue." We would play all day in the pool. And constantly ask our parents, "Can we go in the river now?"

It is important to remember that these kids are not real life kids and it was probably more of an artistic choice to keep the entire family together in the house for the most part instead of spreading them across multiple locations.
But I agree to a certain extent. Kids don’t get excited about things I used to get excited about anymore. I’d actually argue that kids today don’t get excited about much at all.

The mother was the same way. Nobody even wanted to go to the beach with the other people.
