Something happened to me today and it freaked me out.
I ran into a school bus driver from my old High School. My school was K-12 grade. It was TINY. I went there from 1991-2004. My graduating class was only 85 students in 2004.
This man was a school bus driver from when I was in Kindergarten all the way up until I was a Senior in High School. He wasn't MY bus driver, but there were only five drivers, and his parents went to church with my grandparents and I knew him. It's a small town.
Anyway, I ran into him today and I walked up to him and extended my hand out to shake his and said "Hey, long time no see!" And he just looked at me, puzzled. Didn't extend his hand. And tried to ignore me. As if I were playing a joke on him or mistaken him for someone else.
I said, "Hey, you don't remember me?" Thinking maybe because I'm 33 years old now. I said, "My dad is .... and my mom is ..." He still looked at me like "Why are you talking to me?" Then I said, "I went to ... School from K-12th, you drove the number 9 bus." His eyes got wide like, "Okay, how the hell did you know that. Who are you?" He started to crack a half smile and said, "Yeah, okay." But I could tell he was just being polite and still didn't remember me. So I said, "Anyway, I saw you and just wanted to be polite and say hi." So I walked around the store and later overheard him on the phone in another shopping aisle and I heard him say, "I don't know, this man came up to me and said he knew me, it was so weird. I don't know who he is or his parents but he knew I was a bus driver at ... school." I was so shocked I just went straight to the check out line and got the few things I had, and I left. I told my dad and he said, "That's weird. I wonder why he didn't remember you." ... But here is the weird part, my sister and my mom were like, "I don't know who you're talking about." My dad and I just looked at each other puzzled. Finally my sister and my mom just shrugged it off as if we were all just confusing people with someone else and maybe I had the wrong guy.
But I overheard him talking to someone on the phone and he said he was a bus driver at my old school, so I didn't confuse him. He looked practically the same, just a little older in the face.
What explanation can anyone come up with for this? Has this ever happened to anyone else? To this extent?
