So, how would you feel about a world wide program to encourage Muslims to use contraception?

It's hard to draw conclusions on the significance of what he said. Christianity is growing worldwide, but apparently at a slower rate than Islam. Best I can tell, the bulk of the growth of Christianity is also due to birth with conversion being out distanced by deconversion.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christian_population_growth Although it seems China has a growing population of Christians which, I assume, is at least partly dependent on conversion.
Christianity seems to be losing ground in US and Europe, with the proportion of people being Christian is higher in the southern hemisphere. I can see why some are reluctant to welcome poor immigrants from Central America into the US, but these people are, by and large, Christian by culture. Their presence would bolster the Christian population in the US. Yet, oddly enough, it seems to be the Christians who've sided with those on the right who want to build the wall and stop these people from coming in. I'm fine with a wall and keeping out immigrants in general and poor ones specifically, if that's what the policy wonks think will help the US, but I'm not a Christian.
I am mystified, for example, by political conservatives who cry for the resurgence of religious values in this country, and then support the deportation of those actually growing the nation’s religious vitality.
