When i was a young teen, a lot of my 1st experience with "new" music were some of those K-Tel collections. I think the one I had was called "Mind Benders". Like 12 tracks on each side, everything from Olivia Newton-John to James Brown to Kiss on the same record?

My older brother bought a couple of those, which I now have.

Yes! I bought this one back in 1981: My older siblings owned more than a few K-Tel compilations. I used to listen to them all the time.

How about this 39 cent album?

I sometimes buy them from charity shops as a retro collectable.

I love how they mixed all these different genres together on one record. Some were terrible, but some opened me up to listening to different types of music!

We did. In fact, the first ever cassette I got was "Rock '83".
I still have the vinyl of "Rock '84".
A couple of years ago, there was a special that aired on CTV in Canada. It featured K-Tel and ALL of its products -- not just vinyl and cassettes.
Come to find out...the albums were produced on cheap vinyl, so they wore out really easily.

Come to find out...the albums were produced on cheap vinyl, so they wore out really easily. And they often crammed up to 20 songs on one album. Hence, the sound quality wasn't always the greatest.

I bought one of those in the early 70s, but I don't think it was a K-Tel album. It introduced me to Deep Purple, Stephen Stills and Emerson, Lake and Palmer.
