Striking Vipers...A good story...if a bit dull for these types of episodes. Basically another love story...but a really weird one that mostly includes virtual reality. There seem to be plenty of undertones here with technology both keeping people distant and bringing them closer together, things like video game addiction, the excitement of affairs in relationships, kind of accepting the idea that adding excitement into your marriage via a temporary outlet could be the best thing to save it. Open relationships still seem like a taboo subject in todays society but i can't help but think that most people probably do get bored and lust for something different even if its not necessarily better. Monogamous relationships may not be in most humans best interest.
But i kinda got on a tangent a little. An episode in the same veign as stuff like San Junipiero and Save the DJ but a little more skewed and honestly less romantic. I was initially wary of the cast because it seemed they had no chemistry but in retrospect it seems like that was intentional to show how discomforted the main character was in his current situation. The chemistry grew by the end when they had a more balanced relationship with a tinge of excitement. Prob a middle of the pack episode when all is considered.

Striking Vipers might be the best episode of the season. It's an interesting look at how relationships and sexuality will change in the future with the advent of virtual reality.
Smithereens was good until the ending. Ultimately it's a generic "we look at our phones too much, man!" message and the reveal was a letdown. The ambiguous ending also felt really gimmicky.
Rachel, Jack, and Ashley Too had a good second half. The "popstar has a troubled life" story is very been there done that, and the separate consciousness inside of a machine feels like a rehash of White Christmas. The second half where they have to save Ashley O is fun, but I wish the technology to have a perpetually happy and supportive artificial friend would have been played up more.

However Andrew Scott needs a fucking nomination, he was marvelous as well. Striking Vipers was solid but somehow felt like they could've gone in more interesting directions and I didn't buy how it ended at all. Rachel, Jack, and Ashley too can fuck right off as it felt nothing like Black Mirror and it goes off the rails in a immense way. great concept, shitty delivery basically.

Smithereens...Didn’t have a payoff. Majority of the way thru you finally meet the guy he’s been trying to call and...and what? The guy invented a social media site. The relationship doesn’t get any closer than that. The whole ‘omg it’s your fault I was texting and driving’ f_ck you!!! And an ambiguous ending. Good acting tho. Bad story.
The Miley Cyrus one...felt like far too many hands in the pot. I might’ve gotten into an ai doll replacing the families dead mother. Helping both daughters thru their phases with generic optimism and a simple ear. At times it seemed rather interesting. I also might’ve gotten behind a music star being forcefully comatose in order to extract and manipulate her thoughts allowing technology to fill in the gaps essentially creating a completely fabricated diva. But I couldn’t get into mashing them together. Felt like the worst of both worlds and mini Miley with a sever caca mouth was not really funny or amusing. I think this one was a missed opportunity on both ends. The sister actresses played their parts well tho.
Overall this is by far my least favorite season. And if we include Bandersnatch...it may be time to hang this show up.

The only thing I can think of is that he wanted the app shut down, but that really wouldn't help matters in the end. And if it was just to kill himself because he was at fault why go through this elaborate setup? Also, I guess the secondary message is that we also don't care about anyone or anything because everybody just shrugs it off at the end of the episode. This episode doesn't really have anything going for it. This story and the message are so banal this episode could have been set in a police procedural. Agreed with Rachel, Jack, and Ashley Too. It feels like two episodes glued together haphazardly. Also, no one even stops to consider there's two Ashley O's now the real one and the Ashely Too, and if Ashley Too has any kind of rights as a person. Also, what about all the other Ashley Too's with her consciousness in them?

Yeah I assumed he was going to use his situation to spread a message about the hazards of social media while driving but the series chickened out basically.

Maybe Brooker should stick to love stories, since the best episodes arguably are about obsession and love.

On a more positive note I am glad Brooker isn't shoving Easter Eggs into the episodes and trying to make them all interconnected.

While I enjoy stories told from another racial perspective and the drama part was pretty good (Plus Theo was hot), I wasn't enjoying the first episode which had a silly rushed ending considering how long it took to build up to it.
I don't even know why this would be considered an option in a video game.
Why isn't the game rated Adult and unsellable in your local Best Buy?

I interpreted the conclusion as sad and very much something which is a feasible temporary fix as well. Eventually you could surmise they will breakup. And the fact that they had to progress to that within their marriage speaks volumes to the penultimate future as well.

I hope it was considered a sad ending, but it also felt unnecessary since the one character had moved on...Twice. So the ending gave the impression that th reason this was continuing was because the best friend couldn't stop which then leads to the notion that the wife wanted a hall pass all along.

I’m sure they could do it at the start, but once the company got wind of it they would have found a way to fix it so it couldn't happen.

I don't get it. Didn't they take longer than usual in order to develop the scripts as much as possible? Well, I'm disappointed. Don't get me wrong. I didn't dislike the episodes, but STRIKING VIPERS and SMITHEREENS didn't feel like they took that long to write. The latter in particular feels like it could've been written by anyone. RACHEL JACK AND ASHLEY TOO on the other hand feels like they tossed in way too many ideas into 1 episode. The whole thing with RACHEL not having friends and her dad being more concerned with his job were pretty much tossed aside. In fact, why was the 1st half necessary? Why not start the story after CATHERINE has began her plan? In fact, the 2nd half is entertaining, but in the same way a Hollywood action comedy is... and that's not what we've come to expect from this show (even with the more comedic episodes). no one even stops to consider there's two Ashley O's now the real one and the Ashely Too, and if Ashley Too has any kind of rights as a person. Also, what about all the other Ashley Too's with her consciousness in them? Well, they said that they destroyed most of the dolls after low sales. Also, RACHEL's doll is the only one without the "mind limit."
