I don't care.
Either someone has leadership skills or they don't.

As long as they know what they're doing, right?

It pretty much boils down to whether they are decent at their job or not.
but with that said... I suspect someone a bit older is probably in general better than someone younger.

I picked doesn’t matter but to be honest I never had a younger boss so who knows how I would react. I like to think that I would be ok with it.

I would say doesn't matter as long as they know what they're doing. But come to think of it I've never had a boss younger than me. If the boss was very much younger than me it might be a little awkward... for me. I don't know how much respect I could have for a boss that was younger than 25. How much of an expert at something could a person that young be? But then, that's my hang up, not theirs. I'm fine as long as they know what they're doing.

Age doesn't matter.

I have a younger boss, and he's a great guy. I don't think it really matters as long as they have good people skills and leadership qualities. Now the upper management that I work with, is mixed age, but horrible with leadership skills.

Throughout my entire working career - with the exception of one individual, the person to who I have reported has been older than I.
Now that I am getting up in years, I imagine that will change.
At one time, all of the customer satisfaction representatives in our company would report to one lady.
She was a few years YOUNGER than I.

While sex didn't matter much, I would go with age for this one.
At times younger bosses tend to be overexcited about their diploma and applying directly what they learned in school. I understand that feeling but experience on the field isn't something you learn in books.
I'll go with experience (of course there are some young and old morons).

Doesn't make that much of a difference to me but you wouldn't want to have somebody too young and inexperienced and one of the problems some of my friends have with their current bosses is they have come in from other fields and are very inexperienced with handling things and I think people should have at least a few years of experience in a certain field if they are going to be the boss of it but apparently our state government doesn't think so.

It's not just in the US, it's like that in Canada and pretty much everywhere else.

Experience will always be at the top of my list, but I'd prefer somebody my age or older. As they say, you get wiser with age.
