Just tuned in to Uruguay vs Ecuador at the 60rh minute. Uruguay leads 3x0. Man, Suárez looks terribly out of shape! Is he still at Barcelona? They don't seem to be working him up very hard over there! Bet his teeth are still nice and sharp!

Not a good evening for the hosts as Brazil is held to a scoreless draw by Venezuela. VAR was used twice to invalidate Brazilian goals.

Following a 1-1 draw with Paraguay, Argentina (1pt) sit bottom of their group with Qatar (1) above them in 3rd on GD. If the Argies beat Qatar they may claim one of the 3rd place best finishes or even finish 2nd if Colombia (6) beat Paraguay (2) Messi's penalty last night salvaged a point for them and they are greatly helped by the qualifying system of 8 teams out of just 12 going through to the Quarters. But they are a shambles and a mere draw v Qatar may just be in the offing.
BRAZIL 5/4 URUGUAY 7/2 COLOMBIA 5/1 ARGENTINA 7/1 12/1 BAR

It's Uruguay (1st, 3pts) v Japan (0pts) coming up. Lots of room for shifts as the teams go into only the second round of group matches. URUGUAY 2/9 JAPAN 12/1 DRAW 5/1

Luis Suarez attempts to molest the Japan net for the 3rd time in the first quarter-hour. This time his glancing header misses again.

It's there. It's there on '25. The match underdogs (and then some) have taken the lead here through Miyoshi. The Uruguayans couldn't catch him as he sped his way into the box and slammed it home for one-nothing Japan.

Time to go and brew a cup of coffee as VAR interrupts play for a Uruguay penalty decision. Ref had waved play on initially.
...Penalty to Uruguay. Suarez puts it away for one-all.

Another garbage VAR penalty. Slow motion crap distorts what happens. Live, the referee says no pk, slow motion it and it is, and it takes forever to get to it. Get rid of VAR.

Yes, Doc, even the FA or Premier League stated this morning that although VAR will be in use in the EPL 2019/20 it will not now be used in decisions with keepers moving off their lines at penalty kicks. They've obviously been taking note of the nonsense in the WWC.

I'm debating whether to go and see that 'Diego Maradona' film on Monday. Might be a good watch on the big screen. 2 hours and 10 minutes long, though.

Well-taken volley there from Cavani from outside the Jap area but it sails a foot over.

End to end stuff here as Japan see off a Uruguay assault and move the ball up sweepingly into the opposing half. The move is completed by Miyoshi who fires from close range. 2-1 Japan and at the moment the group is wide open.
