It’s a movie about two girls who stay at their all-girls boarding school over mid-winter break and become aware of an evil presence. It starts off very promising, with a strange, nondescript retro vibe to it similar to It Follows, with anachronisms that make it impossible to pin down when the movie is supposed to take place. The leads put in solid performances, the movie is genuinely creepy and builds a lot of tension, BUT... SPOILERS ...it falls apart at the end, when we’re shown that Emma Roberts’ “Joan” is supposed to be the same character as “Katharine,” the young girl who becomes possessed and kills Rose as well as two of the school staff. Emma Roberts is supposed to be Katharine nine years in the future, but she doesn’t really look like the actress who plays Katharine, and she’s too close in age to play the adult version of her.
