Sony/Marvelโs Spider-Man: Far From Home swooped into China today with an estimated $35.5M Friday which includes $3.2M in Thursday midnights. This well outperforms previous entry Spider-Man: Homecoming and sets FFH on track for a $100M+ opening weekend in the Middle Kingdom.

From two more articles.
"Sony/Marvelโs Spider-Man: Far From Home has caught an estimated $71M in its China web through Saturday, putting it on track for an opening in the high $90Ms there. This is slightly lower than where we saw it yesterday as the increase from Friday (not including Thursday midnights) was about 8%, but $100M is still possible. Japan and Hong Kong are also launching this weekend with strong debuts that will push FFH to a $110M+ overseas launch in just three markets."
"Following this weekendโs flood of cash for Far From Home from three territories, the industry is seeing the sequelโs first international weekend (which is Monday-Sunday, given the offshore roll-out pattern) at $160-$170M this coming week. Again, that doesnโt include any figures from China, Japan, and Hong Kong. All-in by July 7, Far From Home could count $335M+ overseas alone, with its global tally in the first 10 days conceivably at $460M+."

Looks like it's at $111 million worldwide then so far, from three markets.
China opened to $98 million. Homecoming only made $116 million in China in total.

Industry estimates have Sony/Marvelโs Spider-Man: Far From Home averaging around $43 million in its opening day, with the possibility it might be seriously higher or as low as $38M. Those figures include the $2.8M-$3M midnight showtimes.

How did I not realize this whole time that the release date for this movie was a Tuesday? That's... unusual right?
I was seeing the spoiler thread already up and was wondering how people were talking about it already. I thought it came out this Friday.

The Day before is usually traveling day, so Wednesday is no good. So the pushed it back to Tuesday.

Probably because I truly didn't realize that it came out today until just a couple hours ago.

I'd bet that Sony had something to do with that since this is a joint production with Disney.

www.boxofficemojo.com/news/?id=4525&p=.htmWEDNESDAY AM UPDATE: Sony's Spider-Man: Far from Home brought in $39.25 million on Tuesday, marking the largest Tuesday debut of all-time, besting the previous record set by Sony's The Amazing Spider-Man, which opened with $137 million over its six-day debut back in July 2012. Despite the performance, Sony is still projecting a $125 million six-day performance.

I get the feeling that this could be the next underperformer.
Box Office Pro back in May estimated a 6 day of $190-230 million. Later official tracking had it at $154 million, the exact same as Homecoming and now Sony is projecting $125 million?
It might do better than that but if this does worse than Homecoming when the character has been able to benefit from two huge Avengers movie since the last one then that'd be a surprise.

Movie made $26 million on Wednesday, now they're back to saying $150 million for the 6 day. They also said this.
"Far From Home we hear is cheaper than Spider-Man: Homecoming with a production cost between $160M-$165M before global P&A. Homecoming cost $175M and churned a profit after all ancillaries of $200.1M. Why is Far From Home cheaper? Our finance sources say one factor is because Iron Man Robert Downey Jr. isnโt starring in the film."
It also appears to be at $150.4 million worldwide. Looks like it opened much higher in UK than the last one.
"In offshore play, the UK grossed $3.4M on a non-traditional Tuesday opening and landed 70% higher than Spider-Man: Homecoming (which debuted on a Wednesday) and 78% bigger than Doctor Strange (which also was a Tuesday start)."

Sony's The Amazing Spider-Man, which opened with $137 million over its six-day debut back in July 2012. Despite the performance, Sony is still projecting a $125 million six-day performance. So Far From Home is going to open lower than TASM did 7 years ago?

Later official tracking had it at $154 million, the exact same as Homecoming and now Sony is projecting $125 million? WOW! That would be underperforming. But not surprising, since I just saw Far From Home and it's not a good movie.

one factor is because Iron Man Robert Downey Jr. isnโt starring in the film. LOL!!! That's what I said before. Homecoming was more of an Iron Man movie than a Spider-Man movie. Tom Holland can't carry a movie on his own so they had Robert Downey Jr carry Homecoming and now they got Jake Gyllenhall to carry Far From Home.

It's very much Tom Holland's movie and was a huge hit at the box office. And Jake Gyllenhaal isn't really a big star, he's just a great actor, who would rather play a guy who a fish bowl on his head rather than Batman.
