Here's a recently published video about optional CGI replacements in Classic Doctor Who home video releases.
Of the stories mentioned in the video, I own "The Time Warrior", "The Ark in Space", and "The Invasion of Time" on DVD.
My favorite of three optional CGI replacements I own is "The Invasion of Time". They really went all out with new effects, and yet they look like they could realistically be a product of the late 1970s.
My second favorite optional CGI replacement of those I own is "The Time Warrior", where the new effects generally enhance the serial, but look too modern at times.
My least favorite optional CGI replacement of those I own is "The Ark in Space". The new computer model of the Ark is well done, but looks too obviously like what it is - circa 2000 CGI.

I really want to see them give INVASION OF THE DINOSAURS the WALKING WITH DINOSAURS treatment.

The restored scene in Part One was a nice addition Yeah, I can't figure out why they removed it to begin with... I read somewhere the story behind that decision. In order to film the "invisible TARDIS", they first had to film the TARDIS, and then film an empty forest where the invisible TARDIS was supposed to be. The problem was that the lighting had changed so much between the two shots that they didn't match up. But today it was a simple matter to correct for that with digital editing.

Yeah, it seems things are simpler - if more expensive - than they used to be when it comes to certain aspects of film and TV production. Well, at least they got it right the first time in THE INVASION.

Something ought to be done about The Creature From the Pit: I think you mean something more ought to be done.

In recent years the BBC has remade " lost" or deleted episodes of classic comedy shows with a new cast. The last project was three episodes of Dad's Army, a new cast but rigorously sticking to the original scripts and designs. Could it work for Dr Who? Maybe as a one off possibly. Evil of The Daleks remade with Reece Shearsmith as Troughton's Doctor reprising his role from An Adventure In Space And Time. Anyway I'd watch it, to see Evil of the Daleks , live action, in B+W of course, would be great.

The question is if there are enough classic Who fans who would buy it and make the whole enterprise profitable enough for the BBC.
