2030 will be the 100th anniversary of the first World Cup, held in Uruguay in 1930. For years now Uruguay have been campaigning to host the centennial edition, in conjunction with Argentina, since they are way too small for a 48-team World Cup. Then I read that Paraguay had also joined as a potential co-host, and yesterday while watching the Copa America semi-final between Brazil and Argentina I saw an ad that read “Together for a Dream” with the flags of Uruguay, Argentina, Paraguay and Chile. So it would seem now that the proposal is for those four countries to share hosting duties.
I don’t know, it seems a bit too much, but if they don’t make teams and fans travel all over the place from one match to the next, I guess it would be OK. In total area that is certainly less than what we’ll see in 2026 (Mexico, USA, Canada). And that’s the only way that Uruguay, Paraguay and Chile can possibly host an event as big as the World Cup, so I hope they get it.

It was already back in the day an ill-fated decision to let them host it.

Won't 2030 be Asia or Africa's turn?

Won't 2030 be Asia or Africa's turn? Certainly not Asia - they have the next one in 2022!
It is true that Africa should in theory get the World Cup again before South America, since South America had it more recently (2014 vs 2010 for Africa), but I am not sure how strict FIFA's rotation policy is.
2026 - Central/North America 2022 - Asia 2018 - Europe 2014 - South America 2010 - Africa 2006 - Europe 2002 - Asia 1998 - Europe
I guess UEFA is not going to like it very much if 2030 is given to Uruguay and company - it would mean at least three consecutive World Cups outside Europe.

I heard Indonesia and Australia were planning a joint bid.

I heard Indonesia and Australia were planning a joint bid. Actually that's for 2034.

Oh yeah, I forgot Qatar counts as Asia. Should be Africa then.

I hadn't heard about that. With 48 teams, very few countries will be able to host the entire tournament by themselves, so co-hosting will probably become the norm rather than the exception.
The next World Cup in Asia will surely be in China, though!

I looked it up and apparently the only continents that won't be allowed to bid are the ones that held the two previous editions - so no Asia and no Central/North America.
There are confirmed proposals from Morocco, co-hosting with either Algeria and Tunisia or Spain and Portugal, from the South American foursome I mentioned, and from Greece, Romania, Bulgaria and Serbia. England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and Ireland are also considering a joint bid.
Taking into account the symbolism of the 100th anniversary, I hope the South American bid prevails.

Having said that, I would feel sorry for Morocco if their bid is rejected again - they have been trying to get the World Cup for at least 30 years!

Don't Scandinavian countries fancy hosting a World Cup? Don't ever remember them hosting any football tournament. Especially now, with the Icelandic and Finnish teams being recognised as "proper footballers"

Time to give it to the UK given the claim to the invention of the modern sport. The reality is that there is so much anti English sentiment in fifa there's not a chance in hell of it happening. More chance of winning the European song contest. Maybe time for the Aussies they should have had the one Qatar bought.

One listener phoned in and said "What about Antii Niemi?". Albiston replied "Naw, naw. We can't play him. He's Finnish." "No he's not. I saw him last weekend and he was terrific. He's far from finished"

The bloke who banged in about 50 goals this season for Norwich - Teemo Pukki - is a Finn too.

It's a f'n tv show, who cares if 1 or 800 countries co-host.
As for host rotation, I think that's more a suggestion than anything concrete, esp with sports. I remember Pebble Beach & St. Andrew's were coinciding for turns of a decade. That lasted for 2 whole turns, 2000 & 2010.
