Never heard of Episode 50 but I adore Grave Encounters. One of the creepiest movies out there.

Ooh... Episode 50 was a film of two halfs.
Was alright in it's set up and and first act.
Second act goes downhill.
Third act is just mental, and rubbish.
Struggling to find a reason to give it more than 2/10.

I've noticed charity shops have become a good place to get DVDs for cheap - the movies people donate now has improved significantly, as more and more viewers shift away from DVD players etc.. I've got three charity shops in my local shopping centre & there's always something to find for 1 or 2 $ a pop.

Grave Encounters seems to be getting a bit of love then.
I've saved it for a Sunday night watch... will post thoughts after I watch it.

I'd never heard of Episdoe 50. There are so many of these kinds of movies that something like that can so easily get lost in the shuffle.
Grave Encounters is perfectly OK. It's not especially good, but it is especially good when compared to so many of the other litany of found footage movies that we've all seen. To my mind it did some things with the found footage trope that hadn't been done before it came along, so it gets some points for that.
It's kind of hard to make one of these that stands out at all, since they're essentially all the same thing, but Grave Encounters does actually seem more memorable than most... and there are lots of points of comparison.

Grave Encounters was a lot better than Episode 50.
But again, the build up and first half was a lot better than the second half, which gets bogged down in clichés, predictable jump scares, and bad CGI.
6/10.

Grave Encounters was a lot better than Episode 50. But again, the build up and first half was a lot better than the second half, which gets bogged down in clichés, predictable jump scares, and bad CGI. 6/10. Yeah, that's all fair. I thought the CGI was generally pretty, but I haven't seen it in a few years so maybe it's dated badly. I found the idea of adding those effects to be sort of a novel approach, to some degree, and I thought all of the sort of time bending elements of feeling like you could never pinpoint just how long they'd been there or what was going on in the outside world was fairly effective, but again, it has been a few years and it may not have aged well. In general, I remembered it having the typical issue of having the typical and unsatisfactory ending with no conclusion or resolution, and relying on a number of tropes from better found-footage movies that already employed those cliches. And yet, that still puts it in the upper echelon of found footage movies. The bar is pretty low.

I watched Grave Encounters 2 today... Shockingly bad in every respect. 1/10 I remember it being lame, and remember the set up being that the characters in the sequel had watched and debated whether the first one was real or not. Stupid set up which tips off the idea for the sequel of The Blair Witch Project. It does it in a different way, but is that where you'd wanna take your inspiration from? The sequel that nobody liked of the movie that people liked that your predecessor ripped off in the first place? It's an odd and misguided choice that tries to make the first one way more important and high profile than it actually ever was. It's a losing formula to begin with.
