A few years ago my husband brought home a tree, a dwarf cherry tree. He had 2 reasons, we live in a senior mobile home park so we just rent the plot of ground, so he chopped down the existing tree because it had grown way too big attracted bees (and our son is very allergic to be stings and for some reasons bees just automatically hate him) so he wanted to replace the tree he chopped down. Then 2nd he wanted to block the neighbors view into our dining area and our living room too, its not that we dislike her but we like to eat in private unless we are in a restaurant.
Summer one the little tree produced like mad and so I had enough sour cherries in the freezer to make 6 pies , the following year not many at all then he told me he pruned it . This year I am gleeful, we had a bumper crop, so far I have made 3 pies, and have enough cherries for 10 future pies! Then just in the past week we had a cute little visitor, a young squirrel started playing in the tree, and then he began nipping the cherry stems and leaving the cherries on the ground. We only had a few left so DH picked the last of them yesterday, and today I took care of the last of them. It is done ! I'm so happy!
Oh yeah I also have a cherry pie in the oven!

Lucky you!
Cherries are also a nice addition to a compote of summer fruits.

Must be wonderful to grow and pick your own cherries. All mine have come wrapped in plastic or, when I was a younger, loose in a paper bag from the fruit stall on the corner which shut up shop before the turn of the century. You do still see cherry stalls about the city and I prefer them to supermarkets for cherries. The taste seems more earthy. I hope you are still enjoying your cherry pies.

I must say I have never seen fresh sour pie cherries in any super market, and here at any rate canned sour cherries are an arm and a leg!
