...exactly one year after buying it. I found the receipt I kept from my old movie shop that has since shut down and it was from August 5th, 2018.
I watched it yesterday and almost shed a tear thinking about all the good times up at this place with my buddies over the years. Honestly, it was one of the few places that always made me happy.
But I really liked the movie, gave it a 7/10. So close to an 8, maybe upon rewatch it’ll go up. The beach scene on Crab Key just slows the pacing way down. I love the tropical location and smooth-as-silk cinematography. It’s great to look at.
Connery is also fantastic, but you all know that.

In my top 5 007 movies. I like its pared down simplicity, as a refreshing change.

It's an excellent introduction to the Bond universe.

One of the better Bond soundtracks, too. I play it occasionally and it’s actually decent party music.

Great film, I really like Joseph Wiseman. One of the more menacing villains in the Bond universe in my opinion. Also one of the more mysterious ones.
I agree with you about the demise of movie stores, rental or retail. The one near me had some real knowledgeable staff and could recommend some interesting films.

One out of two Bond books I've actually read.
I liked the movie, and it stayed pretty close to the book.

Not many people speak fondly of the original 007 movie, but I've always enjoyed seeing it again at the start of my Bond-a-thons over the years. Honey Ryder set the gold standard for Bond girls, emerging from the sea looking like that! The Jamaican town of Ocho Rios looks pretty much the same in some respects as it does today, I've been there a few times, standing where Connery stood, having my little fanboy moment.

Every now and then I revisit the movie too, and recall some of the old charge I felt back in the 60s. Terence Young really was just a routine director, but he was the absolute right guy to fashion the cinematic Bond. And he had the perfect "rough diamond" to cut and polish with Sean Connery. When Young was directing Connery in a small part in "Action Of The Tiger", he told Connery that one day he'll direct him as the star. I know that feeling. A couple of years ago I was in Chicago, and I visited the different locations where "The Untouchables" was shot. A lot of fun standing on that dark bridge.

The only fan boy moment I had was standing in the spot where David Hasslehoff descended into a subway as Nick Fury in a tv movie. Somehow it's not the same as being in Jamaica or Chicago.

Wow! Where can I get one of those? And is it edible? I think it could be made in chocolate.
I took it from here:

The production designer and art department don't get enough credit for this movie.
Ken Adams was the genius who did the production design. He won 2 (Barry Lyndon & The Madness of King George) and was nominated for 3 others (The Spy Who Loved Me, Addams Family Values, Around the World in 30 Days); was also a multi-time nominee for BAFTAs, which he won for The Ipcress File and Dr. Strangelove. Adams was credited for, among others, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Goldfinger, Thunderball, You Only Live Twice, Diamonds Are Forever, Moonraker, The Seven-Per_Cent Solution, Agnes of God, and Sleuth (1972).
