The first song has been released and definitely sounds like classic Tool. I'm pumped. I didn't like 10,000 Days much so hopefully this'll be a return to form for one of the best bands in the world.
Fear Inoculum is a 10 minute epic.

Not a huge fan of the song but I’m really looking forward to the album.

Just listened and it’s amazing. Tool fans will love it except for the guy above me with the average mom.

Just listened and it’s amazing. Tool fans will love it except for the guy above me with the average mom. It’s one hell of a grower. Gets better every listen. If it keeps growing I could see it becoming my favorite Tool album. 7empest is probably already my favorite Tool song.

First impression: It's 70 minutes of ambient soundscapes made with Tool's signature tones and riffs, and there is little to no payoff for the chore of listening to the whole damn thing. Yawn. Great packaging, though.

Great packaging, though. Give it another go. There’s some great stuff in it. I think I’ve listened to it six or seven times by now.

As expected, the musicianship is good (especially Danny Carey, no surprise), but it's still more like trance than Tool. Repeating the same 16 bars over and over again just makes longer tracks. Don't get me wrong, though. I don't hate it; it's just going onto the bottom of my list of favorite Tool albums, barely below Salival.

No one cares but: After seriously over 100 listens, I think I can finally say that Tool’s new album, Fear Inoculum, has moved into the upper echelon of my favorite albums ever made. As far as ranking the Tool albums, it’s so tough, but I’ll try:
Lateralus Fear Inoculum Aenima 10,000 Days Undertow Opiate
The funny thing is that I can switch these around at any time. They are all pretty even. As far as the album itself, the songs go like this:
Pneuma Invincible 7empest Fear Inoculum Descending Culling Voices
The beauty of this album though is you could put those in any order and you wouldn’t be wrong. Even the ‘worst’ song, Culling Voices, is fantastic.
Basically, this is the album of the decade for me.
