I saw this when it was first broadcast (BBC1, I think) I remember before watching it feeling a bit apprehensive because I could feel it being a sorrowful watch, two youngsters set upon by thugs for, it's generally believed, looking different to other youths. I couldn't watch it this time round (it's still available on the BBC I-Player) it's too saddening.
I don't want to detract from the gravity of the tragedy but growing up with bands like Sisters of Mercy, Banshees, The Nephilim, Lydia Lunch - all goth-y, kind of, made the viewing even more poignant. These young uns sought out something a little different from the mainstream, their music and their clothes, appearance, and because of some ignorant thugs paid an appalling price. It's a f***ing terrible thing.
