Pete Alonso gets a lot of the fanfare - and he should; he's awesome - but JD Davis and Amed Rosario have been among the game's best players since the break.
In 36 games since the ASB, Rosario is slashing .366/.403/.538 (.941) with 53 hits and 24 runs scored across 154 PAs. Davis, in 33 games (27 starts), is slashing .371/.429/.610 (1.038) with 6 HRs and 19 RBI across 119 PAs. The Mets are 26-10 in those games. Hell yeah!
When the Mets acquired Davis in the offseason, I liked the move because he was a guy who showed tremendous promise in the minors, but floundered when getting called up by the Astros, mostly because he was blocked at every position so he never got regular playing time. For young players, that's a tough road to hoe. You need consistent reps to find your footing at the big league level. But Davis had been solid for the Mets in a supersub role, albeit with awful defense. But since McNeil went down, Davis has been playing every day and his bat has just come alive. His energy is infectious and this team is playing exceptionally well right now.
