i was recently watching "Follow Me! (1972)
at one point Mia Farrow goes to a cinema and watches a horror movie. from outside the cinema its billed as "I was a teenage horror" but no such film exists.
they show a clip of a character who after an altercation with someone rips off his face and head mask to reveal the actual Peter Cushing!
anyone know the movie that clip was taken from?

It sounds like the beginning of Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed.

Yeah, I think Primemovermithrax Pejorative’s right and IMDb’s wrong here: no such scene appears in Brides of Dracula, but one does in Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed.

I refer to the mask in Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed as "moldy Picard." It looks like Patrick Stewart with goo on his head.

There is another Peter Cushing film where he removes a mask. NIGHT CREATURES aka CAPTAIN CLEGG. He brings Oliver Reed into a building and removes a skull mask.
