no it won't, its divisive , and RT score is tanking. But backlash did not hurt Green Book or Bohemian Rhapsody. So its a bit early to judge, but if Vice got nominated, another villain origin story last year, a nomination at least seems likely.

The farewell may be the front runner. Marriage Story is Netflix, so may have bias against it.

I think it has a good chance to be nominated, but I don't see it as the top 5 or so movies most likely to win BP. The 7 movies that I think are likely to be nominated are:
*1917 *The Irishman *Marriage Story *The Lighthouse *Once Upon a Time in Hollywood *Parasite *Waves
That leaves another max. 3 spots left and I think Joker has a good chance to be one of those movies. Other movies in this category are The Farewell, Knives Out, possibly Star Wars if it's really really good, Ad Astra, Uncut Gems, A Portrait of a Lady on Fire, Ford V Ferrari, Jojo Rabbit etc. But tbh we're still way too early in Awards season to make any semi-definitive lists. The list I just made will most likely change significantly over the next few months.

getting raves and won the golden lion. Golden Lion win is an indication of very little. Of the 65 or so previous winners only 5 have ever been Oscar nominated (with one winning) It's also the award for the best picture shown in competition and premiered at that festival. Not the best of the films this year so far, or yet to come. It's the award for best film shown in Venice that week!!

I actually think Avengers Endgame might be a contender - this year's nod to the mainstream and/or a nomination for the culmination of a major well reciened series like LOTR.

Possible, but it will have to fight against its early release disadvantage. It must find a way to remain relevant and in the Oscar discussion while a lot of other movies will be released during Awards season, making it a lot easier to generate Oscar buzz for them. Black Panther managed to do it so I think Endgame is a contender, but I don't think it's one of the most likely picks at this point. I think it's also dependent on how the remaining blockbusters this year (mainly Star Wars) will perform. Btw please forgive my spelling mistakes in my previous post, I was typing on my phone in the train.

Why not. Endgame seems so far was a better received film. I know RT has much going for and against it, but it's still an OK gauge of critical reception - 77% for Joker, 94% for Endgame (though there have nominees with lower scores). There's room for both, one or neither. They have nothing in common other than their distant origins, why should one exclude the other? Like I said earlier, there has been a lot of hyperbole over the Golden Lion award which really indicates nothing for future award nominations.
