There should be no "culture" involved when devising a list called "The 100 greatest TV Shows this century". Else the list should be named "The 100 greatest TV Shows this century from a UK point of view". Any list which includes gogglebox and strictly come dancing (and no Dark, The Night Of, Gomorrah, Les Revanants, Too Old to die Young, Horace and Pete, Flowers, Euphoria, The Jinx, Mr Robot, Southland) should be treated with the utter contempt it deserves. I rarely watch t.v and while I have heard of some of the shows, can't personally comment on most of them. But any filmed show, movie or series, can only come about because of culture. Which has nothing to do with your original point, which was......the list showing bias due to the UK having a culture of watching English Language TV shows

Which has nothing to do with your original point, which was......the list showing bias due to the UK having a culture of watching English Language TV shows The bias is your point not mine. I am only stating the most obvious reason why many of those shows were English language which is where your umbrage is stemming from. I am aware it is a list that holds no absolute, nor accurate conviction, just what has been deemed popular with viewers—this would have been gauged by ratings and enthusiasm, including non-english speaking countries—and that would include foreign speaking countries too. You've even admitted that the list shows bias in your comments. If you asked 100 people in Portugal, or Colombia, or Japan what the 100 best tv shows of the last 20 years were - I guarantee that very few, if any would mention 'Gogglebox'. The list is aimed at white middle class people from the UK and as a result, is pathetic.

If the list is pathetic, its not because of the shows being English language, its because best and popular are mutually exclusive and best can't be accurately gauged. No. It's not a case of arguing that Breaking Bad is better than The Sopranos. That's a question of popularity and opinion. This list is literally flawed. It's written for a very specific consumer base but passed off as definitive.

Being from a British publication, a very Brit-centric list, but contains many of my favourites that I doubt would be on a list outside the UK The ListColumbo The Twilight Zone Mary Tyler Moore Show Absolutely Fabulous The Golden Girls Charlie's Angels (first season only, the original trio was sublime) those are the best five shows ever, plus the one season of CA Though they wouldn't appear on this list as it's post 2000 shows.

Non English language speaking countries might also rate these shows higher than their own countries product, even if dubbed or subtitled into their own language? The culture IS a gravitation towards many English language shows that connect with many viewers of many nationalities around the world. There should be no "culture" involved when devising a list called "The 100 greatest TV Shows this century". Else the list should be named "The 100 greatest TV Shows this century from a UK point of view". Well of course it is, it goes without saying...it's from a British publication, which I alluded to in my first post' The interest me because it has shows I love that would not appear on a list in any other country. So any list that doesn't have what you like and excludes what you don't must be treated with contempt basically.

The issue is - that list is localized. To the UK. It's therefore not doing what it says it's doing.

This list cannot be taken seriously, it's as simple as that....regardless of whether it is aimed at the British middle class, regardless of tastes.
Any list or article which claims that Strictly come dancing is better than Dexter / The IT crowd / The Newsroom ,to name but a few, has obviously been written by someone with an IQ yet to reach triple figures. As Del Boy once said: "you know how some people are born a few bob short of a pound? well, in his case God added VAT", this perfectly describes whoever came up with this.
