Over the years we have had some LEGENDARY duos of managers and wrestlers. We have seen the likes of Paul Heyman with Brock Lesnar, Paul Bearer with the Undertaker, Miss Elizabeth or Sherri Martel with Macho Man, Jim Cornette with anybody, Jimmy Hart with anybody, Bobby Heenan with anybody...and so on.
So I ask, who do you think is the best manager/wrestler combo in pro wrestling history?

That is a really good question. Do tag teams count? I guess Cornette and the midnights or JJ and arn Anderson and tully Blanchard. I really had to think about that one. I thought of more but that would be more like a favorite stable thread.

Bumping this thread to hopefully get more discussion here. My choice is this. Those two were just perfect (pun intended) together. Mr Perfect/Curt Hennig is one of my all time favorites and Bobby Heenan is my all time favorite manager. Perfect could cut promo's but Heenan just added an impactful it factor to him that makes it even worse than he never got a main event run with the World Championship.

In terms of being complimentary to one another in terms of look or feel I would say either Taker & Paul Bearer or Heenan with Bockwinkel & Stevens, in they didn't need to be together for either side to get over but the union was just so perfect a fit, you could throw JJ & The Horsemen in there also.
But for a whole being greater than the sum of it's parts for that I think I would say Brock & Heyman or Cornette & The Midnight Express, Brocks a top guy on his own but Heyman elevates him up by making Brock more untouchable, Brock doesn't have to be knocked down or hurt thanks to Paul, Paul also keeps Brock alive when Brock isn't around, Heyman has been vital to Brocks longevity since his return imo, as for Cornette & the Midnight, well just look at where they were before coming together, opening to mid card Memphis guys who were all separate but together became one of the hottest heel acts in Mid South, who impressed so much both Dusty & Flair wanted them to come to Charlotte to become the top heel team, Cornette covered up for Eaton's lack of skills on the mic, Condrey covered for Cornette's lack of experience and Eaton was just brilliant in the ring, they each brought something one of the others lacked, Cornette was the shit talker, Condrey was the general and Eaton brought some in ring spectacle that even Condrey as good as he was didn't bring to the table.

I'll piggy back on that and say the Heenan, Perfect, Flair combo was my favorite. Didn't last very long, but with the history that Heenan and Perfect had, it added to that and really made it work for me.

I remember fondly when Randy Savage needed a tag team partner to face Flair and Razor he chose Perfect which shocked him and Heenan while they were at the table of the "studio". The dynamic between the two of them afterwards as the tensions built up was amazing. Amazing what can happen when you've got two all time greats working with one another.

And that "loser leaves" match on Raw between the two, just wow. And with the Brain on commentary. At 9 years old I didn't even really know about WCW or anything. Might still be the best match I've seen on Raw.

It had a ton of classic matches of his on it but if I remember correctly they barely had any on the DVD that he won. That match with Flair would have been perfect. When it comes to classic RAW matches the two that pop into my head right away are HBK vs Cena after their clash at WrestleMania and Jeff Hardy vs The Undertaker in a ladder match. That Perfect/Flair match would certainly be up there there.

No love for Ellering and the Road Warriors? I felt that 1984 was Ellering's best year as a manager. He stopped doing the goofy gimmick and became much more serious and He was on fire on the mic and with that whole stable of Jake the snake Roberts, the spoiler, etc.... But the problem is that not too long after '84 he was a babyface manager for almost the rest of their career and we all know that there is not much for babyface managers to do. They didn't even need him to talk that much anymore

Speaking of which, there are interviews with George the Animal Steele on Youtube where he talks about how he used to goad Randy Savage about Elizabeth who Randy was a bit overly protective of. But speaking of great managers, I grew up watching these greats: The Grand Wizard of Wrestling Freddie Blassie Capt. Lou Albano Oliver Humperdink Paul Jones Percy Pringle(aka Paul Bearer)
