I heard about that as well and it is sad how young he was. I don’t remember very much of the stories that he wrote for Days, but didn’t he bring back Steve and Kayla? I do remember that he also wrote the storyline that reunited Sami and Lucas. But that seemed short lived. He brought some fresh ideas at first but then I remembered it got kind of boring.

Yeah, unfortunately while the name is familiar, I don't remember what his contribution to the show was; which may or may not be a bad thing. As a general human being, it's too bad about his passing.

I actually really liked his tenure a lot. He was the one who took over after JER was fired in 2006. So, he did the end of 2006 until early 2008, when he was replaced with god-awful Dena Higley. Though introduced as racecar driver E.J. Wells in JER's run, Sheffer was the one who turned him into E.J. DiMera, made him a villain, all of that Lumi/Ejami stuff was him. He brought Jay Johnson's Philip back and did the much more successful round two of the Shelle/Phelle triangle. He created Nick Fallon and did the Chelsea/Nick romance. John's original well done death in 2007 was him (although it was quickly undone after he was gone) He brought Stefano back, and did the Andre-was-Tony-all-along thing which I actually didn't love but whatever. Wasn't perfect, but it was a huge step up from what we'd been dealing with under JER, and much better than the Daniel and Rafe lovefest we were about to get under Higley.

Ah, yes, many of those stories were much better than some of the other headwriter tenures. Was he the one who was head writer leading up to the writer's strike; which eventually lead to Higley coming on, first in some sort of quasi/ambiguous capacity during the strike and then in a more definitive permanent capacity after the strike?

Yup, that was him. Was really a bummer how that all went down.
