There's been a few stories relating to Warner Brother's plans for DC's magic based heroes. The first was relating to John Constantine. The article states that they're planning 4 Constantine appearances including a new solo film, Swamp Thing and Justice League Dark. The second concerns Zatanna. First the story was that Emilia Clarke was top of WB's wish list for the role and now it's they have plans for a solo film as well as an appearance in Justice League Dark. I've found this to be surprising but exciting. I'm a huge fan of both characters so it'd be great to see them in the spotlight both separately and together. I certainly wasn't expecting Zatanna to get a solo film so really interested to see where they go with it. I'm certainly looking forward to a little supernatural horror with my superheroes.

If WGTC is the source of this news, then chances are that’s it’s BS.

They've been "developing" that for a while now. GDT would had been perfect but I think that ship has sailed. Maybe somebody else like Mike Flanagan or Adam Wingard. DC seem to have been luckier attaching horror directors to their superhero movies.

DC seem to have been luckier attaching horror directors to their superhero movies. I've been following the revolving door of directors for Justice League Dark; del Toro, Fede Alvarez, Joseph Kahn, Doug Liman... I agree that horror directors are definitely the key here as these films deal directly with demons, ghosts, monsters etc. Flanagan would be great, I loved Oculus and have high hopes for Doctor Sleep. Wingard is a bit more hit and miss, You're Next and The Guest were great but Death Note was a disaster. Will have to see how he fares in blockbuster territory with Godzilla vs. Kong. On that line of thought I'd also like to suggest Ari Aster (Hereditary), David Robert Mitchell (It Follows) and Jennifer Kent (The Babadook), directors of three of the best horrors in recent years. But I think DC is actually in a really good place to try something like this. Recent films like Shazam, Joker and Birds of Prey have been relatively low budget for what they are and that gives them a little more freedom to try new things. You don't need a $100 million budget good Constantine or Zatanna film and the horror direction could fill a gap in the market.

I think Abrams is still producing it but maybe they can get Scott Derrickson as director?
