This is a good road map for boards you mention specifically and even for those that aren't in your Before column. It's helpful.

I subsequently confirmed that the Planet of Apes board was merged into Film General. So your handy map leads to Film General.

That's the Forbidden Zone. Noob. Yes, the X's must represent the "scarecrows" that appeared in the original Planet of the Apes movie that marked the edge of the Forbidden Zone. Correct. The only geographical question now is... How did they get from there to New York?

How did they get from there to New York? The image with the map is actually from the Planet of the Apes TV series, which had a different continuity than the film series. The TV series was set in California instead of New York. For example, at one point, the astronauts encounter the ruins of a BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) station.

Should I?

Should I? If you love the original movies, then by all means check out the TV series. There are only 14 episodes, so it's not a big time investment. There was also "Return to the Planet of the Apes", an animated series from 1975. The animation isn't great, but the writing is excellent. Furthermore, the series (if you watch the episodes in the proper order) has an unheard of level of serialization for a TV series made in 1975. The animated series had only 13 episodes (unfortunately), so that's not a big time investment either.
