Walking shuffling Romero type for me.
They're way more creepy.

There's fun movies with running zombies like Train to Busan, 28 Days Later and Return of The Living Dead.
But walking zombies are more realistic. Not only are they scary but also create an atmosphere of dread.

Runners are technically scarier in real life, but I prefer the traditional walking zombies for that creepy effect.

Eventually the walkers catch up to somebody and slowly have their way with them, which is beyond creepy. Running zombies do get the adrenalin flowing though.

the frenzy of runners is probably more frightening - and something like the opening scene of sequel 28 weeks later... might be a case in point. However the vision of zombies as creeping walkers, returning from a dead state, is the iconic depiction I prefer.
I remember heated arguments on the imdb horror board years ago over whether runners were actually even zombies? I have no idea where the argument stands these days, but I guess a compromise has been reached.

Walking. I don't think anyone could survive a running zombie epidemic. We'd all be dead in days. Unless it were just infected humanoids that didn't require headshots to stop them.

While I think the runners better explain how zombies could overcome society, I find the walkers creepier.
