Never seen If.... only excerpts. I hate that repressed and brutal English boarding school school scenario. That gymnastic dude was f<>king gorgeous. Who wouldn’t fall for him... I think If... is a very good movie, and it's currently up on Youtube. There is no doubt that the boys' school setting is brutal and cruel and repressed. I know you had some experience with that rough setting, Toasted Cheese. It's not something that one can just get over. I don't know if viewing the movie would be cathartic experience or not. The movie does fall down on the side of the youngsters for sure. And the way the movie presents a boy-boy relationship is unbelievably unaffected and natural. It's like you don't see it coming, and there the two sweet boys are cuddling together. It makes no big deal about it whatsoever. So refreshing and rather exciting even. But Malcolm and co. aren't going to take it lying down! The gorgeous actor, Richard Warwick, was gay in real life as well. It's been a while since it got a mention, but he is in the wonderful "Lost Language of Cranes", playing Brian Cox introduction into another man relationship. And that was in 1989, I believe. So, the adorable, cute, sexy 23 year old boy had ripened into an adorable, handsome, sexy 45 year old man. the heart flutters and bleeds... I am also very fond of Brian Cox. He is in my top ten favorite male actors. He also played Hannibal Lektor in "Manhunter" and a benevolent pedophile in "L.I.E."

He is in my top ten favorite male actors. He also played Hannibal Lektor in "Manhunter" and a benevolent pedophile in "L.I.E." Yes, the NZ schools, both public and private, I was public, imaged themselves off the British establishment\system. It could be very abusive and there is a saying that NZ can be more England than England. It of course has lightened up a lot now, as has the approach to teaching in OZ schools. The bottom line is though, if you were a male child, you were lumped in with the rest of the male construct of image and what was expected of males, regardless of character\personality. This is something females don't tend to understand and the privileges that they were\are awarded over males in this respect. They got more compensations made for them.
I perhaps should see If...., but lately, I don't feel like I want to watch things that are bleak and\or depressing. Warwick photographed beautifully in B&W. I liked the recent Joker, but I found it a very oppressive experience.
McDowell and Warwick were both cuties in their heyday and I enjoy The Lost Language Of Cranes. One of the better gay themed films out there and one I often forget to mention. Warwick was the man with the beard in the bar that Cox picked up? If so, then he was a real find. I just looked him up and he died of AIDS in 97' at age 52. Must've took on one too many wing wangs without precautions....
Cox is always an asset to films he stars in.
Yes. I haven't entertained this thought for a very long time. And this is specifically because I don't think I could stand to hear "get over it" one more time, but you hit the nail on the head. I always thought that women had it easier than men and even with fifteen years of opening my mind a bit, I still think that in some ways, women have it easier. The ladies do get more compensations offered and men are (or when I was coming into my own, maybe things have changed) told more or less to get over it. And this is probably why I feel particularly protective towards men. But I always wanted Ethel Mertz' life. Of course, this might include having to satisfy Fred's needs. lol If... is, yeah, I guess kind of bleak, but it has an anarchic spirit and I don't feel depressed from watching it. But neither is it exactly uplifting. Joker looks dark. Do you reckon Joaquin will win the Oscar? A nomination is locked. You know a movie I watched that was bleak and oppressive and very unpleasant -- "Natural Born Killers", which I watched about half of a couple days ago. An ugly film. The two lead performances are the best part of it. Yes, Warwick is the man in the bar with a beard that hooks up with Cox. Oh, he matured beautifully. Yes, he did die young from AIDS. Have you seen "A Clockwork Orange", Toasted Cheese? I think it's an excellent, uber-atmospheric movie and McDowell deserved an Oscar. I thought Cox was magnetic and attractive in "Manhunter". He is an extremely versatile actor and there is just something about him that I like. "Go smell yourself..." Eeek! Along with "Taxi Zum Klo" and "Nighthawks", I think LLOC is my favorite gay movie. I may get beaten for this, but would "To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything" come under gay? I suspect no, but I love that movie. As I know you do as well. "Girls Will Be Girls" is also extremely funny, and totally un-PC. Of course, there is a special place in my heart for "The Boys in the Band", which absolutely helped me to come out to myself and be okay. As bitter as the host was, that party looked fun!

Well, in the West at least. Females do need to get over themselves in certain respects regarding this equality thing, because if they want to match men and be on equal terms, they will have to forego the compensations that get made for them. I don't think many are going to like it. And of course, fickle hetero males get sucked in by the sexual allure of females, or is that wiles....
I think Phoenix is a lock for a nomination for sure. The film does keep coming back to me, and that is a sign of potent film and the design is superb and really looks like an early 80's film where it is set.
I like Natural Born Killers. One of my favorite Oliver Stone films. I find the over-the-top satire, the sytlized and exaggerated approach actually quite appealing, as violent and as anarchic the film is. It is like one big f<>k you to the media. Downey jr really annoys me though, but I have never really warmed to him. Wasn't in the least bit sorry for him in the end.
Started watching Taxi Sum Klo, but it was in German and with no subtitles so gave up. I also started watching the Nighthawks film in the 90's, but wasn't enjoying it at the time. Perhaps need to re-vist. Yes, I think To Wong Foo.. could be considered a gay boy film. I love it just as much as you do. Priscilla can take a running jump in comparison as far as I'm concerned and I like how may take on Wong Foo pisses people off that have seen both and prefer Priscilla. the Nighthawks movie I was talking about was made in 1978 and is set in London. Was that the movie you were talking about? Yes, To Wong Foo is so much more entertaining and unpretentious than Priscilla.

The first half of your posted video reminded me very much of Bronski Beat's Smalltown boy video particularly starting at the 1:59 mark
