I guess I switched from Comcast at the right time. You can still get TCM, but you have to pay more ($9.99/month - I think).

Same thing happened to us. We called Comcast and said we were leaving. They made a deal with us. We had to agree to a two year contract but it lowered our monthly bill and we got to keep TCM. We had to get new cable boxes so they’re probably somehow harvesting our data and organs but whatever.

I left ComCast and switched to Frontier two years ago at a savings -- but had to take DirecTV (which meant losing the signal when it rained!)
But at least it came with TCM.
Whatever doubts I had (and thoughts of going back) ended today with this announcement!

TCM IS THE ONLY CABLE CHANNEL THAT INTEREST ME AT ALL. ANYTHING ELSE I WANT TO WATCH I CAN GET FROM STREAMING.

For what purpose? How many ESPN channels are there?

They are removing it from basic programming and putting it into an added-cost Sports package, so if you wish to keep it, you have to subscribe to the sports package. I have Optimum, so am not affected by this ridiculous change. TCM in a sports package? Let me understand the logic of that.

How do you get someone to spend ten bucks a month on something they don't want? Make it a condition of providing what they do want. "Oh, you like this tie, sir? Certainly. It requires only the purchase of ten jock straps in order to get it. Shall I wrap them all up for you?"

I thought of jockstraps only because it's a sports package, and is the last item of apparel on your mind when you're looking for a necktie. I honestly think TCM's worth ten bucks a month, but resent having it taken away without any adjustment in the bill. That, of course, isn't the way cable systems do business. Their model is more like the block booking studios were able to impose until the '50s. The announcement on Comcast's website stated that only 10% of their subscribers viewed TCM (they never asked me), and it will now drop even more when they have to buy a sports package to get it. Would have made more sense to include it with a package of movie channels, so it looks to me like they're on the road to dumping it altogether.

I think they lie. Anyone who I talk to who has cable and TCM included watches it a lot!!! And don't get me started on rental equipment! We had four boxes and four remotes. You can't purchase a digital box, so they have you. We just returned one and the remote for a savings of about a $150.00 savings a year. We don't use the cable telephone line, but we have a bundled package and if we get rid of the phone line, we actually end up paying MORE!!! Go figure!! Bastards! We're looking to get of the cable tit and just use streaming services. My husband wants to subscribe to Apple's new service. We have Prime, Netflix and Hulu. Had HBO, but gave it up. Just watched Barry on it, and it wasn't worth it. When it comes back on, I'll wait until all episodes are out, then take it for $15.99, then cancel.

Evidently. I discovered the "disconnect," late on Friday.
On Saturday, my bill arrived. It went up.
Weighing my options.

I took the plunge a few years ago and just cut it all. I have over the air television and a couple of streaming options. Unfortunately (for my wallet anyways) this means for the films I really want to watch I have to buy on bluray or DVD if there is no streaming availability.

I've been with both AT&T U-Verse and Spectrum, and it's been in that same package with both of those companies for years. Fortunately, I'm a big college football fan so I don't mind paying for that upper-tier sports package so I can see all the games I want. But yeah, it sucks that TCM isn't offered on just a Basic or Expanded Basic plan.

I don't like having to purchase a bunch of sports channels I'll never use, but TCM is worth $9.99.mo.
I've just been online with Xfinity/Comcast for the last hour-and-a-half, and arranged for a new channel package including TCM that will actually reduce my bill by about $75/mo. A pain in the ass, but I'll come out ahead of where I was before.
