Steven Spielberg Says Marvel Movies Are "As Dumb As A Rubber Shark"
EDDIE BROCK
“When the George Lucas says that the Marvel pictures are "as dumb as Jar Jar”, he’s right because we expect to learn something from cinema, we expect to gain something, some enlightenment, some knowledge, some inspiration.” the filmmaker said, according to Yahoo! News. “George was kind when he said it’s as stupid as Jar Jar. He didn’t say it’s as dumb as a rubber shark, which I just say it is.”

We're gonna need a bigger Giant Man.

Well there it is. You don't get any bigger than Spielberg, Coppola, and Scorcese. Who cares what George thinks. When the holy trinity of film directors shit on you, you know something's wrong. You're stale as fuck.

What Marvel movie did he watch? If anyone in a Marvel movie did something like that it would be the Hulk...

What Marvel movie did he watch? If anyone in a Marvel movie did something like that it would be the Hulk... That sounds more like the old cartoons where they would do that stuff because it was easier than animating a normal rescue, that poor driver could have a neck injury shaking them loose could cause serious damage, no self respecting superhero would do that these days would they? Stevie's out of touch it seems.

Harsh, but I get it. Movies will be in a much better place when the MCU is no longer dominating.

And also, he seems to be more of a space opera guy, or at least, someone who likes films about aliens, and Guardians of the Galaxy is definitely one of those.

Yeah but his description of what a superhero would do when spotting an overturned car that's burst into flames is just funny, that's like 70's Saturday morning cartoon superheroics, glad he liked Guardians though.

Has he not already compared superhero movies to westerns that die out?

Has he not already compared superhero movies to westerns that die out? Yet we still get westerns. I have long compared MCU films to westerns. The heroes ride in, save the day, & ride off into the sunset.

Also it's a genre, most genre's come and go but don't die out entirely, they just become less popular for a while, westerns though I don't think were ever the major hits like CBM's often are, iirc didn't westerns become popular due to how cheap and easy to make they were?

Maybe. Maybe horror films are their replacement. Cheap to make, & pretty much hard to lose money on
