I wish I hadn’t read it. Too awful.

I saw the movie on a list of films with big twist endings, never heard of it before.

The film sounds like an overly convoluted episode of Law and Order:SVU, judging by the Wikipedia plot synopsis. And although I hate to say it, any film starring Morgan Freeman these days pretty much screams formulaic. The man is obviously resting on his laurels and sticking to the non-challenging end of the cinematic pool, and has been for a while now.
Going by that, I doubt the book would hold much interest for me.

Going by that, I doubt the book would hold much interest for me. Dennis Lehane's (Mystic River) Gone Baby Gone is a truly brilliant book amyghost. It's an exciting, shocking thriller, but what lifts it to greatness is the piercing moral dilemma it sets up and poses. The ending is fascinating and heartbreaking, and it leaves one thinking about it for days. It is an exceptional work - from a truly fine writer, of fiction, with an extraordinarily realistic sense of place and character. I would urge you to read it. The acclaimed film adaptation is almost equally good. James Berardinelli is a far more articulate writer than me, but while he explain the film's strengths better, we are both on the same page about it's considerable virtues. Here is a scene from the film.

I agree Jefferson. That’s the problem, that I can’t stop thinking about it. I hated the ending.
