Clearly I don't get out enough. The only two I've read on the list are Dracula and Salem's Lot, and, like you, I found Dracula not terribly scary but more like Stoker had written it during a bad acid trip. And I find King's IT, even in all its prolixity, far more frightening than SL.
It being Halloween and all, I figured I'd put down the book for a while and have a few laughs with Toby the Devil:

The House on the Borderland is creepy. If you want to read a truly creepy weird horror story, that's the one.

Haven't read any of the books on that list except Salem's Lot. But, in the comments someone mentions The Troop by Nick Cutter. Now THAT's pretty scary.
