PBS already did that here in the US.

Of the titles listed I've read 28 (I counted The Narnia series and The Earthsea Trio as one, since I never completed either: the Lewis is simply too coy to wade through in its entirety, and I just never got around to finishing the LeGuin); I'd have to wonder exactly what's meant by the term 'shaped our world' except in the purely pop-cultural sense, otherwise why in the world is something like Twilight included here? Sounds a good bit like The Great American Read thing PBS aired, that RiP,IMDb mentions--a jumble of flash-in-the-pan junk, purest trash, PC titles, and some books of enduring merit, that many more probably claim to have read than have actually seen the inside of; not a true listing of genuinely era-shaping works. And why Anne Bronte's Tenant of Wildfell Hall as opposed to Wuthering Heights or Jane Eyre? Is that novel really more 'important', influential or still-read than Charlotte's or Emily's opii?

So Twilight makes the list... but not Dracula? Twilight had more effect on pop culture than... Dracula? Really?

Aye, it’s a pretty shit list (the BBC one.)

So Twilight makes the list... but not Dracula? Twilight had more effect on pop culture than... Dracula? Really? Must admit I hated Dracula. No interest in reading Twilight. I agree though that Dracula was culturally significant in a way Twilight never was.

My score is a paltry eight. Don't be ashamed of that. There's hardly more than eight on that list worth reading.

Not enough American books, obviously. I agree. Extremely under represented.

How many people have read these books to the point they 'shaped' our world?
And then there's something like The Hunger Games tossed in? LOL
It's a terrible novel. Just like the movie.
I've read 14 of them but only a few of those would make my list. 1984, Lord of the Rings, Confederacy of Dunces.
I have now officially lost all faith in the BBC.

No Gulliver's Travels or Moby Dick? No Mark Twain?
Oh fuck off. They just stuck in corporate authors to erase the white men that would be dominating the list. Mary Shelley should make up for it given that Frankenstein could well be the most influential book of the last 200 years.
