I stopped watching after Season 2. My biggest problem with FtWD was that it blew the potential of really spending time showing how the epidemic began. It went from whispers of a epidemic to full blown zombies run the world and the military has given up in less than a season.
This really could have taken a page (no pun intended) from World War Z (the book not the movie) and dive in detail on how things fell apart instead of just going before and then flash forward six weeks later (or whatever it was).

I'm asking because for me it has gone downhill the past two seasons. They've started with the 'let's not kill anyone' - kumbaya - rubbish.

Yea I thought it was kind of surprising how quick it turned the world to hell...given that’s what I thought the basic plot of the show was gonna be, the events before Rick wakes up...but by the end of season 1 it’s pretty much the world Rick woke up in.

I agree about Alycia. Damn! She helped keep me invested too.
As for the show itself, when it first started I really liked it. Unfortunately many disliked it, for some unknown reason to me, and the ratings dropped. Personally I thought the first 3 seasons were really good. I loved the family drama and the cast set against this zombie apocalypse. Then a pair of new head writers took over starting with season 4. They changed everything. The cinematography to the cast were all different. It felt like I was watching a completely different show. Outside of anthology series like American Horror Story or True Detective I’ve never seen such a huge change made to a show before. I watched for about half a season and then gave up.

Still watching, but I agree that it went from zero to zombies a bit quick. Then it was just the same as the original show, only with different people in a different setting. The show has had some really great moments though. As for rebooting/revamping in season four, I liked what they did. It gave it some new blood and vitality. I found seasons two and three a bit slow.
