Not sure if many have seen it, it's only been out for a short while now, but why not?
I give it a 2 myself. One of the most disappointing movies I've seen in a theater, also the first one where I just left before it ended, even if the movie only had like 15 minutes left to go.
An absolute waste of a story. I didn't care at all about Scarlett Johansson, even if she does seem to get some praise for her role. The whole is a cliché-ridden waste of time. The visuals might not have been bad, but even those were disappointing. Nothing new to be seen, nothing new to be heard. And nothing interesting to this entire movie. And that's a waste, given the source material.

The only movie that was really thrilling me this year - groundbreaking visuals.

I like that they tweaked the story for this like adaptation but it wasn't as good as the 1995 film.
The movie looked great. I thought it was weird that they had advertisements like Bladerunner did. I don't remember seeing Japan looking like that in Stand Alone Complex but maybe it did in the '95 film. I can't remember.
I don't really like Hideo Kuze in this movie. They tried to make him like The Puppet Master but it just didn't work for me. They couldn't even keep his voice all messed up. That bothered me.
I try to not compare this to the animated movie but it's hard when you copy some many things from it and you don't do it as well.
I tried to like this movie. Maybe I'm overrating it because I love Ghost In The Shell.

Just seen it, a bit surprised to see it didn't fair too well. It was a bit short of great, but still very much a good movie. Beautiful and imaginative visuals, and a story about identity, technology, and stretching the limits that gets very interesting as it goes along.
One of the weirdest points of criticism I read is that ScarJo was chosen for the role as a white actor - yeah, that's an integral plot element when she finds out who she used to be, and how that connects with her mother. It was one of the strongest parts of the movie. Don't see how some people don't see that.
7/10

Animation give filmmakers more freedom to "play" with their ideas for sci-fi stories... and KOKAKU KIDOTAI (GHOST IN THE SHELL) wastes that potential. Most scenes consist of characters talking. Boring characters. In fact, they constantly discuss the story's deep themes explicitly, not allowing viewers to think for themselves. True, the production design is creative, but that aspect can only amaze the audience up to a certain point. The action sequences are well-made, but they're too few. 5/10 Since KOKAKU KIDOTAI 2: INOSENSU (GHOST IN THE SHELL PART 2: INNOCENCE) is a noir film with sci-fi elements, it earned the right to have slow pacing (the 1st installment didn't, because it was mainly a sci-fi film). Unfortunately, the old characters are still boring and the new characters are boring too. The themes are nowhere near as complex as before and the mix of 2D and 3D animation is awkward. 1/10 GHOST IN THE SHELL 2017 3/10 ------------------------------------- You can read comments of other movies in my blog.

5/10 As most critics have said, great visuals. But the story didn't engage me much. Takeshi Kitano had one fun scene, though:
